Water!
you can't go long without it, it's a pain to store it, and i'm determined to never have to worry.
my full plan is not yet in effect. . . but what i have it a big step towards a no worry water supply.
i'm on a well, with nice clean water, there has only been a UV filter on this place since i bought it. no problems before hand.
my water storage is complex in a sense. . . i have hand camping pumps for on the go, i have a drip filter with 3 sets of replacement filters (filters crack, nipples break etc) i have both liquid and powdered Na or Ca Hyper-chloride to cleaning it. i keep a large brita type water jug (it lays on it's side and has a spout to put a cup under it) to remove the bleach taste from my stored water. i have a number of 2 and 3L jugs for water storage (now filled), i keep a bunch of powder juice mixes to add to it for better flavour and calories if needed.
i have just shy of 500 gal of rain water stored (for garden/animal use, all parts of the system are drinking water friendly) it could be filter for human use.
i have 3x 55 gal drums for human/animal water use, (not filled this second)
and i have 5 x 1000 gal ICB totes needing cleaned for water storage. this water will supply the barn, and be a back up the garden or house in drought years. (way over kill, but the price was great)
there is also a pond that is usually about 3 or 4 acres in area and 4-8 feet deep that is now down to about an acres this fall, this pond is just off my property, but there is a right of way that farmers can use it. (meaning me) and in the spring that pond floods two areas of my property which i'd like to have dug deeper to keep water in them all the time for some ducks.
i would like a lake running over my place, but that's not what i have.
future projects must be a complete electrical back up to my well pump, a replacement hand pump and a maybe even something solar. . . i'm not so good with electrical, so i'll be getting help.
maybe you can't tell, but i don't believe water is something to fool around with.
any thoughts? comments? no pointing and snickering please 😀

If your ABLE to stay put - all good.
But I have only one question - What If you are 'Forced' to bug out - do you have your supply for that sorted and future sustainability while on the move???
I'm old, tired and crotchety - what's your excuse???

all my filters will transport with me, and i can take a number of smaller bottles, i have a large stock of 5 gal food grade buckets as well. i can store way more then i can carry.
but short of the total destruction of my house and land, not much is going to make me leave.
OH, can't for the the 6000L tank i have, the plan with that is of course back up, but hooking a pump to it, i can have some early water on a fire while waiting for help to come. . . assuming they is help to come.

my first year on the property (summer of 2011) we have very high water levels. the old owner (grow up here, his parents built my house) said he'd never seen water levels so high. this year, our ponds never really flooded at all. i figured my well won't go dry unless the pond was gone (and it's very very small and shallow now) but there are three families that feed directly off that pond, and at least one family has kids, and Lord knows kids don't conserve water.
beyond worry about a dry well, i had a large garden to worry about, (large for me, 800 sq feet of growing area) and being my second garden, i wanted to learn as much as i can, without loosing all that food/time/money/work etc.
water is just too important. . . some free that future wars will be fought over drinking water, and the way the world is going, that might not be the cleanest drinking water.
if things fall apart, my goal is to "continue" and other then not going to work in town, life will just be what it is on my days off. "around the farm". (but it's only half a farm right now lol. lots of work, only more to come!)

Yup. We will have water wars just for the privilege to shit in it. Flush toilets are a ridiculous concept.

As opposed to?
could you store and treat some of that well water?...I remember when I grew up on a farm with a well that the only big issue was sand in the system in the springtime for some reason.

Composting. No water and after the time elapses you can use it on fruit trees and other trees.

Own it 🙂 I just try and spread the word. I have also said our home will be 100% compost.
