How do you get them to breed?
A little candle light?
A couple very tiny glasses of wine?
A tiny bottle of musk cologne?
Or do you just set them in front of the tv and put on a stag flick?

10kg each of white flour & whole wheat flour, then put all in big (new) 2L sealers and did the oven sealing method. Takes longer than 1hr with that size of jar, had to do it a second time to get them to seal. Hope the flour is ok but it is worth a try to not have rancid flour.
Went to Continental Mushroom Factory and then put up 12 jars pickled mushrooms, 2 jars not pickled, some frozen
Hubby went berry picking and I made 8 jars strawberry jam.
Big Purchase....finally found a 22qt pressure canner

Farmgal,
What would happen if there was no where you could send your dehydrator to fix it? Is this a skill you would want to learn? Maybe keep spares on hand. I never changed a heating element on my clothes dryer until it burnt out. But saved the service call when it did.

Building a good solar dehydrator would be a good ideas as a backup plan. I intend to build one this summer before it is time to start harvesting from our garden.

Cheers...Joe O'

For this week, added several bags worth of canned vegetables and some bulk spices. Will be adding a few more things in the next few days I suspect. Always watching for good deals too at Yard Sales on old Coleman Stoves and Lanterns as well. Will have a wood stove in the workshop by fall and plenty of firewood. That would become "Home" in the event of a long term power outage in the winter. Got enough food on hand for the first couple months at least, maybe more.

I've reached a plateau with my preps.. between the limited space in my bedsit flat.. and my physical limitations all I am really doing now is maintaining my supplies and fine-tuning some things. Realistic next step is to rorate out some of the food via eating it and replace with fresher/newer. And add some more stored water... somewhere. Plus the need to save up for a new mattress will suck up a decent amount of the spare cash in the next few months. Springs sticking out = ouchy

Yesterday I found a peddle grinder at a yard sale 20$, I'm still stoked about it, the older gent just wanted to get rid of it and i was happy to oblige! bought some small BOB items at supersalez.com, also added a fair amount of rice, honey and salt to my stocks, probably the best prep week i have had in the last month or two.

I found a big metal hand mill for $10.00 at a yard sale yesterday -it's the kind that clamps to a table and I plan to use it for animal feed in the future. I also found 3 more kerosene lanterns - the pretty ones - for $2.00 each!
