about 6 years ago i added 20 some fruit trees over two years. they were doing great until we had the drought, i was able to keep them alive but the next year my property flooded (4 months in the winter of a dry well, then a flood) that flood killed 28 of my trees (only a few of the established trees lived)

since then this place flooded and my well was shooting out over the top, and this year the water level is very high again. may have a contaminated well again.

if you read about my dog problems, you might come to the conclusion i have really shit luck.

but drought taught me to live without a well (i have 2700 gal of water tank storage and another 540 gal in rain barrels. i learned to plumb those into my house, (oh but there was trouble there, and my outside faucet failed and the replacement broke and jammed up inside. . . sooooo i learned to use a temp water system ( tankless water heater, RV pump, barrel to run my shower)

after the flood i had problems that led to a replaced pressure tank, i learned to install that, and to set my pressure switch (a bigger pain in the butt then it should have been lol, i make things difficult)

if nothing else my life lives up to my forum handle. cause damn i've moved toward a lot of chaos.

Going to get some charcoal capsules this week.could be used as a make shift addition to N95 mask or for drug or alcohol poising ( not intending to inflict that pain on myself but to perhaps help others) I thought it might help with food poisoning bey Wife says it won’t help And that your better off throwing... up

There is a place in Toronto you can get 1 lbs bags of charcoal. Pros it’s bulk, cons it’s powder. When we give charcoal in the hospital it’s mixed with sortitol ( sugar lacitive type stuff) and it gritty and not well liked. Mixing it with Apple juice and ICE or chocolate milk helps it go down. ( so does an NG tube. ) it’s a big does and would take a lot of capsules. I have a bottle ( from my vet) I’ll have to look to recall the dose we use.

That same company is where I bought my ginger tea bags. High quality stuff

Activated charcoal is what you need to administer for poisoning. It’s powdered mixed in water, messy as sin going and coming out at either end. Doesn’t work for stomach poisoning from a batch of week old tacos found in the office fridge.

Lol, yep, what the good wife told me. Minus office scenario!

Funny the little things you bump accross and light goes on in dim room

I've been doing some tidying up lately, both at home and at my mother in law's house.
From MIL house, I got a few hand tools, some multitools for other family members, and some misc. hardware items like screws, hinges, chains, that kind of stuff.
I was cleaning out the back of the truck earlier today and found a bag I had put in there for the kids. It was totally outdated (I can't remember when they were both in diapers). So out it came. The items inside will go to the donation box. The bag itself will be repurposed as an add on for my radio bag. A few MRE's, some exrta radio gear, a few bottles of water, etc.
We also made a run to one of our BOL's over the weekend, replacing some food items and adding some clothing, bedding, and tools.

i've eatten canned pasta (alphagettes 10 years passed the date) with no issues.
dents are dents, doesn't mean it's bad, but old and dented is less safe for sure and i'd really look at the can as whole or just chuck it. most cans are good 7 years after there date, and many much longer.
BULGING is 10000% garbage.

tomato based cans will break down without any major signs of damage, (some just leak all over, or blow up) but you can get pin hole breaks in the can and then fill up and block with the spoiled content. they don't always leak because the stuff gums up the hole. all you'll see is a little black mark on the can. scratch it off or touch it with a pin and you get a pressure release.

brand names fair better long term then SOME cheap brands. but those alphagettes were no name.

Tomato sauce in jars seem to last longer, as the acid has no effect on glass. They're of course much more fragile. I've wrapped mine in bubble wrapped bags and they seem to stand-up really well. 🙂

None you improvise, one (or more) is luxury.

For sure, I was never able to grown enough tomatoes to can them, they ended up in my mouth. And I grow a lot of tomatoes.

Planted my garden (late better than never, right??). Unfortunately, I had to buy potted plants this year as I was unable to start from seeds - so a smaller garden it will be.

Bought a few more garden tools so both Mrs HP and I can work together.

Got a few tarps on sale to replace worn ones I use routinely.

Not so much added, but I think important to mention...
In anticipation of ARRL field day later this month, I decided to break out the radio go bags and make sure everything was up to snuff.
It wasn't!
Now I can spend a bit of time getting it up to speed.
It's important to check your gear from time to time. Are devices working and batteries charged? Do the clothes still fit or are they out of season? Is there anything you thought was there but isn't? Has food gone bad or water bottles leaked? Is there anything you could add/replace/eliminate?

Chain saw supplies: extra bar oil, bar, chain, mix. Tomato beds prepared (when the frost warnings stop). 🙂

Demon, what was not working on radios?
Agree about the need to always check on things and Electronics are brutal. It works, turn it off with big smile and then, poof, going nowhere fast. I am a big believer in redundancy because no matter the quality and care, things break.
