There are tons of"prepp" sites ,experiences advices and money making opportunities. All in the name of prepping. To me it is to be able continue your life stile after something serious happen. For me it is the same simple down to earth life stile I lived for last 15-20 yrs.The only different is that before we stored and preserved enough food to last till next year harvest just little extra .Now we store and save much more food in case there WILL NOT be harvest for year or two and be ready for the problems and difficulty that will arise with it.
I see all the time people offering specific services to others and waiting for call.Lot of them keep talking of prep. in the future.(I will after....)If you want learn more JUST GO and help others do not wait Just helping itself is reward.Don't matter what you do you always learn something and meet people you may need in a future.Don't be afraid to fail.By failing you learn more than from success.By helping and talking to people that fail you always learn what and how not to do-some stuff and save time and money in your life.
Whenever and whenever you get chance talk to people be friendly and helpful. If they reject you that their loss.
Just met a woman that lived whole summer in a tent. She can teach me more than watching movies or watching reality shows.
Shortly do not say I WLL avery little experience whatever it is prepping for future.

Nice post Henry. The approach you have taken is very similar to mine. I believe that one of the most important things that we can ever do is talk to people and help them in any way that we can to be a little more self sufficient. Whether it is for 3 days two weeks or two months in the end you are helping them to save themselves a whole lot of grief if something, anything, happens.
I find it interesting that a whole industry has been developed around making people aware of things and teaching them to be able to do things they they would have taken for granted 75 years ago. I don't begrudge that industry, if that is what it takes that's fine. I think that over the last few decades a lack of ability to comprehend the worlds as it really is, a sort of tunnel vision towards reality, has crept into society and there seems to be a lot less common sense around. Hopefully in the next few decades this will reverse itself , if it doesn't our current society may well disintegrate.
I have to agree with ICRCC.
Great way to explain what prepping is henry.
Too many people think its about amassing an enormous amount of weapons and ammunition and getting ready to defend oneself or family against the ravaging hordes, which is why prepping gets such a bad name.

Pepping is a simple sustainable lifestyle. Once that is mastered, then one can add the luxuries. The more luxuries that are wanted, the more work required to maintain the lifestyle and a happy outlook on life. If any of the wanted luxuries cannot be produced close at hand, then its time to rethink and change some habits.
A simple and sustainable lifestyle is also a lifestyle which goes hand in hand with hard work. It doesn't happen at the retail level. It requires others so being an unfriendly island unto oneself is not for me. People have lost touch with how things are done, and without someone to show them its even possible outside of the movies, we have to step up to the plate. There are a few who figure it out.
I prep for life in general. I have either made the grade or not. Right now, life is presenting me with the question of drought and how long it will last. Yes, we are still in drought and its going to have severe consequences if it continues. The US is up to 80% drought now, and Ontario, although it has improved is still not out of the woods. Many rural people are still dealing with dry wells. Some of my plans have shifted towards a more difficult sustainable lifestyle. Henry is very wise to keep 2-3 years on hand to get through poor harvests. It may be the wave of the future that yields are going to be considerably less. I hope I am wrong.
For me, Prepping is being prepared for the future based on how I live my life right now.
I live a pretty basic and simple lifestyle, we are working our skills and learning more and building trade partner's in our neck of the woods, I am unlucky enough to live to far away to be able to access the information and help that my family would provide, so instead we are building a life that is as self-contained as possable in many ways.
I understand where OddDuck is coming from in regards to climate, water and yeilds in ontario, however as I was raised multi-generational in regards to gardening, canning, and perserving, anything you have a good crop, the goal is always to put up a min of two years or more for all the basic's, better to have extra's to dump and use as critter food and replace it with fresh crops the next year, then to have crop failures and not have enough to get you though till the next season's harvest.

Absolutely. Self contained with room to expand under the right circumstances + 2 years or more of the basics for more then the current residents. Aunt Bertha style.
Planning for keeping critters and a feeding loop is essential and the drought is complicating it. So plans must be in place to have the right critters in the right amounts while planting gardens that will cover the needs of both people and critters while accounting for climatic conditions. As things get drier and hotter, its going to get innovative to say the least.
