I think that there are more prepper's then ever to be honest, I just don't think they take the label a lot of the times.

I like this sentence. It takes the stigma, and the presuppositions society has at large about prepping and shelves it and focuses with more of a pragmatic approach...like homesteading, etc. At least that's what I got out of it. I really do like that sentence.

agreed, i don't and never did like the label prepper, it's not how i saw myself in the start, nor is it now (but my self view is a personal one, like my relationship with GOD, and i don't openly share that either 😛 )

saying that, i use the term loosely, and i don't talk in person with non preppers, about prepping things. i don't use words like prepping, survival, survivalist, or similar terms in public, at work or other places. i did talk about my back up water system and how and why i put it in (during the drough) i didn't tell people at work that i already owned a number of massive water tanks 220L x12ish? 450L x1 1000L x5 6000L x1 . . .

too many people pre judge you on the negaitive part of something, preppers are nut jobs, conserviatives are nazis, etc. i try to stay under the radar and not stand out for a few reasons.

i moved to the farm to farm, to homestead . . . and if i have solar and radiation gear, that's no ones business lol

Building resilience is a term that is getting over used. For me though it seems the most appropriate alternative label for prepping.

Definition of resilience

an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

a hundred plus years ago, that was called "life" and it was common ability. you fixed the shovel handle, you took care of the shovel handle, and you treated it like your life depended on it. you didn't go buy a new shovel.

SOmetimes I think that we're stuck here in our little corner of the internet. A group of people trying to make the best of whatever the world may decide to throw at us. Then, every once in a while, someone sends me an email that points out that we are not the little forum or blog that I sometinmes think we are and that there is someone out there taking notice. Today is one of those days. Seems we have been listed on another "top sites" type of blog.
https://www.jaysguide.com/best-survival-blogs/#wwwcanadianpreppersnetworkcom
We listed quite high actually...up there with Doom and Bloom, Outdoor Life, Survival Mom, and others. We may have attracted some attention and even earned some recognition in the prepper community, but I would like to see more newcommers. Sure, every month there are a few more, but it has slowed down lately.

A popular Youtuber recently discussed how useless the 3 day prepping idea is. Sure, to many here 3 days of preparedness seems to be much less than any of us would consider, but many, many of us started out at that point. I've started to plan a new blog (actually revitalising an old one) that will be directed to the "non prepper". A place to provide a starting point if you will. The issues remain the same however, mostly a lack of time. With running a home business, taking care of a home, taking time for immediate and extended family, it can take me as much as a year to set up a blog from idea to publishing. After that comes the time needed to keep it going. I can still remember the time it took to get the CPN blog back on track after it was left abandoned...writing a new post every day for months until readership finally started to rise.

Readership and postings here go up and go down. It's normal, I've watched the trend for years now. Media hype seems to be a driving force when it comes to prepping interest. We had a MAJOR spike in site visits durring the Myan Calendar thing...even some interview requests. Disasters also seem to create a spike, such as the floods and fires in recent years out west. Of course, I would never wish anyone to have to live through a disater, but media coverage of these events does create interest, so how best to take advantage?

Hopefully I can get the new site up and running before the next major event. Perhaps even get interest up and convince a few people of the merrits of being prepared...even if it's only for 3 days.

at Canwarn, i've gone for years, (part of the group i was in requirements) and it was usually 20-30 people and 80% HAMS. but last year in owen sound they broke the record with about 275 or 300 people. . . this year is reported to have broken that record again. it was a massive group. and while it's not about survivalism it's self, it's about weather which most of the preppers i know monitor and record the weather on their farms/homesteads. . . so there might be more out there, but maybe this isn't the place for them.

Funny, I have gone for the Canwarn training for some years too. Did not go this year but I get invited due to being a Ham (although I am more likely to witness weather when biking or out with the dog), but I always found it funny that you cannot report extreme weather over the Ham system - Environment Cda wants it by phone or twitter. They always have good door prizes though - some years I got nice flashlight or blackout buddy, one year I got a NOAA weather radio 🙂

I read the forums.. comment on things I find relevant or can help with that I've had personal experience with. Went to one get together ... found more folks selling wares than I could shake a stick at. Seemed that meet was all about getting you separated from your money, everyone was charging a fee for this that or the next thing. This was the only and last time I went to a meet, in all honesty I've ran into more folks that talk shit then actually prep and even more folks I wouldn't trust breathing the air around me let alone be in a group with. I honestly think people are not talking as much because they don't want to take a chance of the wrong person/people getting into their group and ruining things... had it happen to me... lesson learned.

Cheers,
BOA.

Just remember.... the Boy Scouts have been saying it for years.... Be Prepared!

Its been interesting watching the "development of the 48% preppers that is happening in the UK due to Brexit.. Its like a rapid fire snap shot of the prepper movement at certain points.

Indeed. I have.. but I keep in touch 🙂 I agree with the idea of adapt in place with what is here now as well as prepare for the future in the best way possible.

I think every single "label" has its own postive's and its own "negatives"

some of which is real, example I wrote on my own blog about the fact that the data is hard core there that those that live rural (which is considered in some ways to the gold standard in preppers) have reduced health care, the stats on health and the available health care shows that if you want the best health, move to the city.. which goes against many things we talk about in terms of controlling our own food systems more, more health from being more active and so forth.

As with everything, Balance is the key to looking at things.. well as much as our own ability to see that balance is possible. You only need to dig into the stats across the world wars where they created food programs because so many of the rural people that lives here or here or here failed the medical health exam for being able to be a solider.

Now flip it over and we have a real split already between the haves and have nots, the rural and the city and like so many things, we see different rates of things being effected.

I know of people that even five years ago where going strong that are on the very edge of losing it all.. and that's after they have already sold all the toys (at a fraction of the cost) folks that are now under water on their homes and as I help people on a number of different groups in regards to garden, homesteading and so forth..

I have noticed a very interesting trend.. 5 years ago 80 percent of the people on the polls said they had a garden to provide fresh food and control how it was grown.. I ran the same poll this year.. 90 percent's top reply.. Saving money by growing their own. Followed closely by not trusting the food company's with all their recalls.

I think C5 has some interesting thoughts on things.. some I agree with it.. some that make me go hmmm and a few that I go.. ok! Respect but perhaps not my cuppa at this time 🙂

Scrounger I have to say I have not checked in for a few weeks or more. oh, I will again, maybe a week, maybe a month, maybe 6 months, cant say when, but I just lost all interest...I just had a complete face palm moment when I read of him having Weatons right hand going over his writing. I knew right then this is just going to become a prancing permie parade, the master of phoney self promotion and afilliate marketing is now in control even if C5 doesnt know it. I do. that was enough for me to say "check please" (sadly)

Sadly last year another fell under the spell of a false god.. I roughed him up a bit over it, but talked with him through pms and he was genuine, and real, I think just blinded by the light you could say and the hope, don't forget the hope...I think he came to understand that...you joined his site,(not his as owner, but as member) you know who....By the time it was taken down in late nov or early Dec it was filled with fake permie bot profiles, contrived content, all to aid affiliate marketing for guess who?
(I traced the location of the LLC (right by weatons, well a little north), and can show you screen shots of the affiliate payout scheme, just ask)

Does this mean you wont be telling me where I can get that yeast? 🙂

yeast.. I didn't answer that.. sheesh dude.. bug me twice when I do that.. I meant to get back to it.. I got it on ebay, it was good enough but it crossed over within a few months with my more common used.. that's the issue with yeast spores. whatever is the one used most in kitchen spreads the most spores in the air.. I can not keep different strains going at same time with crossover..

hold on, I will post this and then come back after read message again to see if I missed something..
