this isn't about where i live. but where i come from. . .

i learned a lot of my early prep stuff from LDS family, from books, and from forums. . .
at first i was only on public forums. backwoods home, great magazine, a great forum. . . i was there when it crashed with trolls. . . it was there when things went to hell, and when a member broke off and took us to the gulch, a great place with mostly friends. . . we had a few rules and trolls were booted hard and fast. it was a public forum with a private inner circle.

one site found me, i got an email about it, now closed down but Gerry D Young was there, he's wrote many short stories. . . he made mention of the "Alpha Rubicon" group, saying "these guys have it all". he was right, the Rubicon is a place of advance knowledge, because it's members are from every where, doctors, nurses, medics, soldiers, lawyers, farmers, homesteaders, everything you could think of, there is a prepper there.

it's closed forum, you have to apply to get in, you are there on there rules. one man owns it, and he makes the rules.

some of the rules. YOU TAKE PART IN THE FORUM OR YOUR GONE! every one posts or writes articles. . . you're getting the stuff from others, they get your stuff too! everything must be sane and legal! everything must be based on facts, not just opinions. if you say something you can't back up, someone there will be a pro in that area and they will tell you that you are wrong. . ..

sounds like a pain? no, things run smooth there, few fights, everyone is like family, i've met nearly 200 of them. i've been in a number of their homes, i've hung out with their kids (i taught many of their kids some first aid stuff are a large camp out)

so, while there is a lot of opinion in many of our topics, there are MANY FACTS, i KNOW when i read something there that it's coming from a professional in that field. when i ask my friend about a mask filter, i KNOW he knows because he was in South Korea doing NBC training, watching wind flows for radiation spreads if NK nuked SK, he KNOW his stuff!

my Dr. friend says such and suck about pandemic info, i know it's the truth because he's a well paid ER doc that does training for other hospitals to help them set up there pandemic plans.

when you post here, or any where, consider the rules set up by advanced preppers that have been online for 14 years now. keep it sane, keep it legal, make it fact based, take part . . .

you all know the ones on this board that prep seriously, you can tell in their knowledge base, you can tell in there skill sets. . . you can tell when they talk about preps. if you're NOT putting yourself out there, they will NOT notice you, they WILL NOT want to work with a stranger! if you want to be noticed and helped, POST!

just my opinion, but i like to know my teammates well. if stuff goes bad and you need help, you want friends like me! (lol my opinion again) but i want friends i know i can count on too. if you don't post, you don't get noticed.

on this message board we only have words, your word is your bond, to me, that means a lot. . .

Well said

I used to "own" a private group. One of the rules was to do a proper introduction of yourself in the first 2 weeks of joining and if you didn't you were gone. It was also a way to keep out the spammers.

Entropy,

Well said. It cannot be overstated folks, if you want to known on this Forum you have to post. Then post some more. If you only have an opinion, label your post as such. For those seeking knowledge, please, post your questions. Somewhere on here is someone who knows what they are talking about and they will give you an answer. Somedays it will not be the answer you want but.....

Unless you take the leap of faith to attend a meeting in your area, your posts will be how you are viewed by your peers.

Post and post often.

Mountainman.

Mountainman.

that's maybe the most important point i didn't state!

i once asked a question about 7.62x39mm ammo, the old corrosive stuff in the 1120 rd crate. it had 7.62/54 on the box. now 7.62x54R is a type of Ammo. but this was the correct stuff. a guy on a forum, erred on the side of caution, but gave me wrong info, telling me i had the wrong stuff. it was a long weekend, i couldn't get in touch with the seller, and i could of been at the range pounding this stuff thru office supplies. i lost three days of shooting time, many hours of worry that i wasted my money, and i angry at the shop for maybe selling me the wrong stuff (that might of been dangerous)

in the end the "expert" didn't know crap about what he was talking bout. the 54 was the year the stuff was boxed up i later found out on another forum (sks survivors board) but the conflicting info was NOT what i needed. if you don't know, don't act like you do. . .

as mentioned before, having pros to warning in the correct direction is great, but we aren't all pros, and sometimes our efforts lead to a fail, posting that experience too is great because others can learn from your mistakes too. there is no shame in a good attempt gone wrong, just in not learning from it, (or really stupid mistakes 😕 which i've made a few lol)
