Hello all.

I know I could probably find my answer by endlessly combing Google but I'm taking a chance:

How do you sort all your food? I mean, I was thinking about stocking a few months of the most necessary items and use them on a rotation. But then I get all those different products all with different expiration dates, and just haven't cleared how I'm going to systemize this. I'm sure some of you have already gone through this process. Maybe you could share some of your ideas?

Thank you!

Ah - keeping track of food storage...it's different for everyone.

There is the very cool can rack rotator that you can build yourself. Here's a video if you've never seen one before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCnXfO7YMfk&feature=related
Many people write the expiry date on the top of the cans with a large permanent marker - it's easier to see.
Some nerds who shall remain nameless have spreadsheets and programs with the dates in-puted 🙂
The simplest way is to put them on a shelf and always stock from the back and eat from the front. I personally don't worry if the expiry date has passed by a month or two - it's still fully edible.
Three months for two people isn't too difficult. 1 year for 10 gets more complicated 🙂

Hi,

I seen on the internet that a good way to stock food is to diversifie it.

Like by 3.
1-Ration (army stock,outdoor food etc)
2-deshydrated food (pasta, nuts, fruits if u can, rice etc)
3-fresh food (all other stuff)

So u can get ur chance up to survive longer with different kind of food. You can put ligther food in your back pack if you got to go.Or eat fresh and deshydrated food when you stay at home.
The good think is, always think that you gonna lose 1/3 of you stock. Or 1/3 is not gonna be useful.
