Hello. My name is Aaron and I live in B.C. I have been following the Montreal student/Bill78 protest for some time now.
FIRST, I do not want to talk about the politics of the situation. This is simply about prepping.
I was wondering how this crisis has affected your prepping? Has it? Is there any type of feeling that chaos is just about upon you? Are you worried about a police state/martial law type situation? or total anarchy? and has this made you take additional steps to prepping, perhaps come up with new ideas that a year or two ago you wouldnt have thought of?
Perhaps this type of chaos has made you a new prepper, something that 5 months ago you didnt consider yourself to be?
Hello arronbouge. The fast answer is no. The unrest in Quebec centers on a complex problem based on ideological differences. To have these issues brought to the attention of the general public and followed by the media brings them to the forefront. This is not negative process and from the societal viewpoint it is probably a vigorous discussion that will ultimately lead to a positive outcome.
Discourse is an integral element of society and it is a healthy symbol that society is working as it should. The sky is not falling.
Prepping is about expecting the best but having plans for the worst. Most governments are encouraging people to have a 72 hour (3 days) supply of necessary items ready. Most preppers would go at least a step further and encourage 3 months supply. Some preppers would suggest an even longer period of essential supplies are needed.
History has shown us that the "end of the world" is not imminent. Natural disasters such as severe weather may be much more likely. Prepare for those kind of scenarios first. That will bring some peace of mind that you are at least ready.
Sleep tight, society will not collapse in the foreseeable future.
Hello arronbouge, as a former Montrealer all I can say is that I'm glad to be out of the city. I think that under normal circumstances, there wouldn't be much to worry about with the student protests other than a few traffic snarls. That being said, it is noteworthy that a group that in my opinion is a terrorist organization, namely annonymous, has now entered the playing field. This could only make things worse. Although when you ask if I am worried about martial law, well no. Because even if there were to be bombs in the mailboxes, I don't think Harper has half the guts that Trudeau did, and Charest really can't afford for this to escalate due to an upcoming election.
My personal opinion on the whole thing is that the students need to realize that the cost of living goes up. They will have to make some concessions with the government to make this go away. I also believe that classes should be taught regardless of attendance, as I do not believe that the teachers have anything to strike about. With that in mind any student who fails to attend class and achieve a passing mark in their courses simply fails. And as for bill 78, I do believe it is totally within reason. All they ask is for route outlines so that they can protect the citizens, and not to wear a disguise.
Quebec students reply to bill 78 route request.....

Hello fellow prepper,
In my opinion, it does not change anything about how we prepare for events because we live in Gatineau (the Ottawa region). This event is very centralized (in Montreal) with few incidents outside the region. THere is nothing as major happening anywhere. I dont think people should be worried about this protest getting bigger and hitting other regions of Canada. But preppers around in the Quebec province should notice how the government handles the situation. This governement is not able to resolve a crisis (and we are only talking about people walking around in a city). So, i believe it should not do any better in case of a real emergency situation. If there is anything to change in our way of prepping here, this would be one... Do not count on the administration of a city, town, province, to help you out. Try to be as self reliable as you can.
I survived Hurricane Katrina... i remember how desperate people were for help after it hit the city and how the administration in place was not able to do anything.
