Hi, anyone here have any info on snugpak producks? I was interested in their sleeping bag especially the special forces system1. Also their bivi bag too. Looking for a nice compact sleeping bag that will still provide warmth when needed. Also a bivi bag that is lightweight and waterproof

I have a British military issue snugpak softie 9 sleeping bag. They're expensive to buy and somewhat bulky but it's without doubt the best synthetic bag I've ever used.

I awoke from a good night's sleep one morning in a hammock and could hear a gentle sloshing sound. I thought my flysheet must have pooled some water above me. When I stepped out onto the ground, a LOT of water poured out of the hammock. I hadn't realised my (poorly setup) support lines had wicked water onto me all night during torrential rain. Despite being soaking wet, I was warm and comfortable in 5*C weather. Try that in a down-filled sleeping bag! Snugpak is top quality kit and has been tested in hostile combat environments for many years.

These guys seem to be the cheapest that I've seen in Canada. Pisses me off seeing people charging $250 for those jackets when I could get one in Afghanistan for $60. But I won't be making anymore trips there again so I guess I'm screwed paying the higher price. I've seen them pretty cheap on British ebay. May want to check that out too.

As for the Bivy bag, if you've never used one, they are one of the greatest pieces of kit ever invented!!!! On my RECCE course, we were sleeping in swamps, and not a drop got in.

Snugpack is a top notch manufacturer. They made the maggots we used in Iraq, Af-Pak, Sierra Leone.... Well, a lot of places and when I actually got to use the bloody thing, I slept well.

Howdy All,

I am interested in learning more about Snugpak products as well.

As for affordable bivy bags. Check this one out from The Sportsman's Guide. Price is in US dollars. Got one for my son, it is a high quality bivy bag, using real Gore-Tex fabric.

I have two sleeping bags and a jacket. The jacket and sleeping are 15 years old with lots of use. Wouldn't part with any of them.
