Hey all. So, I've been thinking and will share my thoughts here. I know if/when the S really HTF, the ideal for those living in urban areas to bug-out to their pre-established BOL, whether that is a rural property, the home of a family member, or what have you. I also know that many do not have a BOL and nowhere to go if they had to leave the city. In those cases, it is definitely best to bug-in as long as possible. I know that when people have a BOL, they sometimes form groups, with say 2-4 people/families all supplying the BOL and working together to defend it, get food, etc. What about doing that sort of thing in the city? What if, for those who have no BOL, the group chooses the best home/location in the city and everyone stocks that place and agrees to all bug-out there if the SHTF. While they may not be out of the city, they will be in a group, which means numbers that will make it easier to defend the property, etc. Then, if for whatever reason, they choose to leave the urban area, they can move out as a group and have strength in numbers. Thoughts?

From what I've seen here, it looks like forming a tight group can be a little difficult. In the other hand, if you already are in a decent neighbourhood, why don't you "breed" your Preppers group? If you know your neighbours well enough and that they have skills you could leverage, why not plan on using them if TEOTWAWKI happens? It may require a little more planning on your part, such as stocking items for them too, but I suspect your time and efforts would be better spent that way than trying to get a few like-minded folks off this forum to all move in a common neighbourhood.

My neighbours are not Preppers per se, but I have one who is a retired farmer, living alone with his wife and their 2 fridges, deep freeze and pantry are always full, he still owns a hobby tractor and a vault full of guns. Man other neighbour is a (young) retired soldier and married to a nurse, they have a beautiful garden that makes the envy of the neighbourhood and they can every fall. I'm pretty sure if I approach these guys and go all "so, let's be a survivalist group", they'll think I've turned tinfoil hat on them. But the reality is they are already Preppers of sort. If the time comes, I can take advantage of what they can offer, but I need to prep a little more to overcome what they may be lacking.

Now, don't get me wrong, my whole plan doesn't revolve around having them, but it doesn't hurt me too much to plan on this option.

Not sure I would want all my equipment and supplies and food elsewhere and assume the stuff was always there.

And what if you can't get to that BOL in the city because there is a blockage or some other
reason. Then you would be stuck at home with no supplies or equipment. You still need to stock your own
home properly first then the BOL.

Otherwise the person that owns the best BOL has everything and you have nothing .

This is true, Goldie, which means that you have to have an immense amount of trust between your groups members, which would essentially be a mutual assistance group or MAG. You would have to have the same level of trust with a group you plan to bug out with. With a trustworthy group, a plan of action, and a method of communication, this might be the best shot for people who do not have access to a rural BOL.

I agree, and have been considering forming an alliance with my neighbours so that we have part of a block that we can defend and make use of. And I think that no matter what, yo are right to have plans that don't include neighbours or even your MAG so that if it doesn't work out for whatever reason, you aren't up the creek.

Could always buy a duplex, 4-plex, or 8-plex together. Or you could build one to spec, complete with a private interior courtyard. Concrete walls. You could make it pretty defendable.

Gotta find people willing to do that with you though.

A duplex / 4-plex is better than having the urban BOL at a place you might not be able to get to
and find your home has no supplies and you're not able to get to the BOL

It removes the issue of having to get to the urban BOL because you are already there.

Exactly... I can't speak of everywhere else in Canada, but at least here in Northern AB, we can't even seem to be able to plan a meet so seems like working out a real estate deal between Preppers would be akin to a miracle. Sadly, even just doing a joint caching project didn't seem to evolve beyond this forum (I'm guilty too...)
