The first thing I would have to point out is that Woddy Harrelson smokes WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much pot to take seriously.
Unfortunately, this might take away from the message.
Finally, I see something that offers a believable plot...one that is driven by greed for money.
No talk of Fema death camps, no talk of mass killing via starvation, no interstellar being controlling our thoughts, no government mind control to force people to shoot up schools, malls, or military bases.
I think more emphasis should have been put into the end message though...
Yes, in fact, a need to "keep up with the Jones'" has been created by the corporations that sell us those very devices, doodads, designer labels, lavish homes, shiney new cars, etc., etc., etc.
By not giving in to this way of thinking, we can effectively shut down the whole idea, if there were enough people getting on board to do so.

I agree that he paints a polite picture as to why things are the way they are. But he shows that we are on a predestined path that others paved so we would walk it! We have to first wake up to the tricks before we can break free of the trap....it is a really big trap and so it is often hard to see how it could work. Corruption has been around so long that we ignore it's presence even though we feel it's effects....making us that frog in the pot of water and STILL unable to see the controls that keep raising the temperature.
