What are the best ways of collecting rainwater, ex-roof run off.

The Roof gets treated for Moss, which is a real problem, and the chemicals are ones I wouldn't wish in drinking / cooking water.

Considering the pollutants in the atmosphere and the possible contamination from eves troughs and piping (as well as chemically treated surfaces ), I would treat, boil or adequately filter any rainwater if it was feasible to do so. This is assuming that this water was to be used for human consumption.

None you improvise, one (or more) is luxury.
