Thats right 3 in Alberta have already died of the flue, and the season has just started. Add up all the others from other Provinces and I bet we are nearing 50...who knows how many it will be. 3 died of the flue---0 from Ebola....please check the data from your province and compare the two.......just food for thought..

Peppercorn,

This is indeed reality every year. The main difference though and why we often "downplay" the risk of flu, is that it usually affect those already frail and sick.

Off course, there is also the media out there that wouldn't get much listeners interested if they just spoke about the flu; Ebola is much more interesting!

Ebola is much more interesting!

more interesting, way more sexy, you can even imagine it has super powers. Still waiting for 50 deaths from it and I can start a 6 day count down ...stocking the liqour cabnet...hair cut...looking forward to some peace and quiet...

OK...I never claim to know much...but I have to say that there should NEVER be disregard (at least today...when things are fairly status quo) for those 'frail and weak'...just my opinion. And Ebola is NOT 'sexy' or 'cool' in any way, shape or form! I just got back from my 2nd trip over seas this year, and I don't think you actually know what your talking about...(1st trip in Feb was about schools and kids, and the last one in Sept was about the sick, dying, and dead...) Sorry, don't mean to be a jerk, but c'mon....get a bit of a grip and idea of how things really are in the world (outside your own daily life and the crap that's on TV). Again, I apologoze, don't mean to anger anyone, just feel the need to make sure someone speaks about what is actually happening.

Thank you for your frankness, its welcome, not angry at all. I am a little tied up at the moment, and have to step out but will come back to respond when I get back.

Ok, I am back.

should NEVER be disregard (at least today...when things are fairly status quo) for those 'frail and weak'.

well not only did I not dissregard the frail and weak...I actually brought up whats going to claim a lot of them this winter, as it does everywinter, and its not Ebola, never has been..I will gladly look at any data you have otherwise, and thats in this country or world wide.

And Ebola is NOT 'sexy' or 'cool' in any way,

I will agree with you there, if your reference is to those with it....my reference is towards the promoters of fear and the news cycle, and I think you know that.

get a bit of a grip and idea of how things really are in the world (outside your own daily life and the crap that's on TV).

Well I think I do have a good grip on how things are in this world. and as to the TV, well there isnt one in the house.

Getting a better grip on how things are in the world often comes with age...look forward to it, ofcourse to some that can come earlier.

So you have been there and somehow the observation as to the mechanism of how its spreads escapes you?, cultural practises that promote the spread you did not pick up on? Medical care both its quallity and quantity (especially rural africa) was something you failed to observe? living conditions vs there and Canada you did not pick up on? and I am certain the death rate is greatly exacerbated by health conditions brought on by Ebola, but not properly addressed because of medical resource scarcity in quallity, and quantity..not something we lack here in Canada even rural Alberta, but ofcourse ebola will be credited with the kill. The name ebola is the same here and there, EVERTHING else is different yet you antisipate the same result.....really?

I do take health threats serious, and when there likely hood of occurance is nearing the risks that I take on a daily basiss I will have a plan of action to mitigate the risk. I called this long ago...time is proving me right and the fear merchants wrong every day that goes by...in case you missed it here is my plan of action from another post.

I guess since everyone else is talking about it I should too....I dont want to be different so heres my plan.

Well something like 3000+ die in car crashes in canada per year so thats 1 in 11 000 per year. I dont lock down for this infact I go right out on the roads knowing this. Im crazzy mad like that.

Fatal car crashes dont ofcourse rise exponentialy so to roughly give ebola the same risk factor and we will assume a doubling of cases every day, and 100% fatal..........................................................................................

You all agree thats way worse than it actualy is right...

Lets do math, day 1 one, day 2 two day 3-4, day 4-8, day 5 16-day 6 32, day 7 64, day 8 -128, day 9 -256, day 10 - 512, day 11-1024, day 12-2048, day 13-4096, so 3000 deaths is at day 12.5, round up to 13....

So because I am prudent and dont over react I will look at roughly half way as my concern point roughly 50 deaths in Canada, at that point I will have about 6.5 days to stock up the liquor cabinet (or buy brown sugar 40 kg bags from costco) finish cooking my meth (home business, you all have one right?), maybe visit the peelers one last time, string out the razor wire, get my hair cut-both of them, and prepare to enjoy some peace and quiet for a few months..... Just my luck on day 13 driving home loaded with brown sugar and apples I get hit, wouldnt that be ironic dying in a car crash so close to getting some R&R, but the odds would be about = by then, so either could get me. Thats my plan, and im sticking to it...

Just for fun..I wonder what the odds are of dying at the hands of your spouse? and will those odds go up in a lock down situation? and are you more likely to get away with it ? ...food for thought

Canadian Gurl,

The posts above were by no mean intended to downplay the disease itself, rather to downplay the medias' spin on it. There is much sensationalism about Ebola in North America yet the risk is extremely low to be infected, at least compared to the death caused by influenza.

I'm saying the medias like to choose what is "sexy" for their reports. Like emphasizing every gun-related deaths when there are easily 500% more vehicle-related deaths in Canada.

Kudos on the work you do btw.

Thank-you heli, and I see what you are saying, and agree.
And pepper, just because a person doesn't feel the need share everything seen, thought and felt, on the internet...doesn't mean that all those observations and many more weren't made. And being older doesn't mean anything when I comes to actually understanding things on a global scale, It's experience, knowledge, and intellectual capacity.

Seems to me that you will get used to specific banter from certain individuals and even learn to enjoy it as I now do. This forum seems to have it's own family aspects and the more you visit, the more you tend to accept each member and the role that they play here. Peppercorn is quick with the wit and yet often bears tidbits of knowledge if you read past the sarcasms 😆 . And helicopilot is well versed in much pertaining to medicine as he is/was a paramedic.

There is alot of propaganda wakening folks to Obola but disregard in a balance to keep things in proper perspective. I find that reality is far more obvious here than reading your daily news elsewhere as preppers seem to pay greater attention to all possible threats and prioritize. We may not agree fully as to their order of priority, but at least we tend to not be as mislead as those who follow the mass media's portrayal of it all. I think you'll find maybe this an informative break from that pre- packaged crap soon enough and maybe even learn to role with Peppercorn's sardonic humor on it all too if you give it a chance... 😉 😎
