Okay folks it’s official! I’ve had a couple chats with some other members and I am trying to set up a meeting for May 4, 2013 in Red Deer.
The Calgary group is doing well and is having an indoor meeting with an agenda and organized topics on May 11, 2013, so by having this the week before it should not interfere with their efforts.

The location will be............ Deer Run Community Association........The Address is .............2223 146ave SE Calgary Ab......It will take place 1:00 pm Sharp...See everyone there.......
I am working on a place to meet, but as it stands there is a gun show that weekend at the Westerner Park and I will be there. I may be able to get a room like the Calgary team has done or better yet there is a possibility I will be able to set something up in the parking lot.
If anyone has a better place in or very near to Red Deer or any other suggestions, please get in touch. It’s only two weeks away, so folks travelling from Lethbridge, Medicin Hat, High River, High Level and other far off areas of the province need to be able to plan for a trip.
I think this could be a good thing to try and put together a couple times a year and more discussion and planning could go into another meeting say two months down the road, but for now I will try and set this up and anyone who can come is welcome.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

quietman,

This sounds like a solid idea.

Please keep everyone posted. Time. Location. Duration. Alternate Location.

I will be there if I can.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Thanks for trying to put this together on short notice. At the least it will be a building block for future meetings or training excursions.
Hope to see some of you out there.

LG, we can look at a carpool if you don't like driving the DeathFoot 2000?

Carpooling should be on many people’s minds. Perhaps we could arrange some meeting points just like we would if this was a real bug out. This might also be a good time to use our communication gear. Wouldn’t it be great to have our two ways on Prepper channel four so that if anyone coming into town needs directions they can get them right away.
I'm sure there are a few folks who will be unable to attend due to the short notice of two weeks, but I hope this will be just the first such meeting and during it those attending will be able to brainstorm the next one.
I would like to try and organize a Bug Out pot luck so as Preppers RSVP could we each list off an item and let us know if there are any food allergies to be aware of. I can’t be around peanut butter and mustard. There’s a third one, but it’s easily avoidable.
Try to make it something that is in your preps. I will start it off with some jerky I will do in my smoker next weekend and some Mr. Noodles (I’ll do a pot with ten packages so there is enough for a group, just like we would if we were bugged out). This way I can offer something I make with something from the grocery store and both are from long term storage.
Hope to be hearing from you all soon. Have a great day.

Do we have a location? If not... I can track down an old friend from the SCA who lives in that area and they run the community center out that way. We have an SCA event a few times a year there of which I used to attend to take part in the archery aspect. Been a few years but pretty sure they are still there. Say the word... I will track them down and can put you both in touch with each other to talk numbers.

I could probably make it too. Just need a time and a place.

Like the idea of the "preppers" potluck. People would definitely see me as a definition of "soup to nuts" type. 😀

As I live in Red Deer I should be able to attend barring a call from work. I have tried to form a get together for Red Deer without much luck, hope you have better luck.
I am sure there are folks here but as you say we just to need the ball rolling. Although we live in Red Deer we have an acerage about 2 hours east if things got realllly bad.

I'm still hoping to be there as well, barring I don't have to leave for work on the weekend. Any word on the campground option yet Quietman?

Well I have been able to arrange stalls in the overflow at Westerner park for Saturday. I told the lady there might be a group of folks coming in from out of town and we would like to be closer together if possible.
So please give me an RSVP by Wednesday if possible so I can ask for stalls together.
If the weather goes bad I don't have a ready alternative, it's to short of notice.
However it is supposed to be 19C on Saturday... 😕 It was supposed to be 14 today and we got the wind and snow... so welcome to Alberta.
