Hi all new to joining this forum, everywhere i look i see people with bug out plans and ideas of packing food, weapons and stuff that are easy to move, I will throw this out there if shit hits the fan like people think it will won't all the roads be packed with people who were not prepared and who just scrambled out of fear and desperation? how exactly will preppers be able to get anywhere with the roads jammed up with non preppers who are desperate to take what you have, if a group of people stranded who are desperate they will see your vehicle packed with gear and they will stop you and take everything you have, all the weapons in the world can stop someone from shooting your tires!! then what you have no way to get moving again.
I am thinking that boarding in and staying put is a better plan, please feel free share your thoughts, agree or disagree what do you think is the best plan?
one more question if the economy collapses how long do you think preppers need to plan to bunk in for 3 months or more ?? thoughts??

It seems that the ideal is to bug out. That said it is only really workable if you have a place to bug out to. If you have no prior preperation such as land, cabin, supplies or as part of a group with these then once you hit the road you become just another refugee. I think for many the best plan is to bug in in your home or with friends locally that have arrangements with. Bugging out only becomes the last alternative if the threat is immediate to you. Welcome to the forum.

This was a subject that was touched on during our last meeting, and there is no hard and fast rules for bugging out because every prepper's situation is different..
Example; living in High River, I can be loaded and out of town in 30 minutes, but some one that lives in Inglewood Calgary would need 30 to load and another 30 to 45 driving time, just to get clear of the city, and if you had to walk out you are looking at a full day of a difficult hike to get clear of the city..And as others have said unless you have a group to meet with at a designated point in any direction were will you go..So it is important to be able to Bug in, but you need to protect and hold your home, Thugs can over run you there just as easy as taking out your tires. So my advice is come out to the meetings and see if you like what you here and the folks that you meet, and build a trusting group to net work with, Once you [" WE '] have that, then we can have a sound plan for bugging out and ending up in the same place as a group....Most preppers views are as Antsy said the prepper that has a plan with a group will be long gone by the time everyone else figures out it is time to leave, and by then gas and supplies will be few and far between, So it is very important to have said plan and a trusting group to go with....

Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...

The missus and I've been discussing this as well. I've set up bob's for each of us with the 3 days of food and materials etc. but we don't have a destination other than a relative who is east of us on a small acreage with no supplies (they have not bought in to the idea so we aren't caching supplies there unfortunately).

Our next family is in MB or NW Ontario... reasonable in a vehicle but not possible on foot (emp/martial law/etc).

So, we have come to the realization that we are bugging in and going down with the ship (house) at this point. Part of my rationale for going to the meetings is to find those I can trust and network with so that we can develop a secure and reasonable bug-out location for long-term disasters or societal reconstruction. Whatever the scenario might be.

I suppose because our primary fears are economic collapse, pandemic, or ELE, then that makes our choice to bug-in a reasonable decision for the Risks assessed (for now, until something in the world changes again...)

Now that my bug out bag is nearly ready, I am prepping for bugging in. It may be realistic to hunker down at home for a day or two before making a move to leave. I don't think we will know until time comes to decide.
Another scenario may be that we can't get going immediatly due to an injury or not being able to use the bug out vehicle.
Therefore I plan on having things here at home ready for one of these things.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
