CRITICAL - Calgary is in a state of emergency. According to their numbers, the flood water from canmore (Bow River) will hit the Glenmore dam tonight and will probably overflow according to their calculations. The water levels will most likely be greater than the flood in 2005 which caused the evacuation of 40,000 homes in Calgary alone. We are already in a flood warning with the rain, so once the overflow occurs the drainage system will probably not be able to handle the stress. Please watch this video and SKIP TO 5:15 for the nitty gritty. All of it is important though. If you are near the Elbow or Bow river, get to higher ground. They are even going to turn off utilities today/tonight.

Stay safe folks. You're in Ontario's thoughts.
How are all our people from these towns, cities that have been affected? I hope you all check in & you are ok, so many have lost everything they own! Do our people need our help?
Buggie here checking in. Just working away, business as usual 😀
This is a good opportunity for everyone to check out the Calgary emergency agency at work (CEMA). This is exactly the kind of emergency they are here for. They are out there doing there beat, so I guess we will see how they do come morning light. Stay dry everyone!
See you all after.
looks like the worst is yet to come. It is expected that the two dams will spill over sometimes tonight. I should inflate my camping mattress and sleep on it just in case 🙂
The good new is that I might not be able to go to work tomorrow as they say downtown calgary should be avoided. 🙂
I hope everybody will be safe tonight. Hopefully this will be an wake up call for some people as far as emergency preparing is concerned.
If I lived anywhere in these areas and was not told yet to evac and had an RV or just the BOV I would be G.O.O.D. with my important paperwork, food/water and anything else I felt necessary to take with me...how frightening all this must be to those in the affected areas...and for those who are not they will be affected still by transportation becoming an issue do to train track damage, highway damage...supplies being brought in will be slowed down or maybe won't get through at all, water is being contaminated everywhere & we all use this water..Homes, belongings and jobs have been lost....makes everyone need to seriously ensure they are prepared for shortages of any kind.
I am really glad you are ok Buggie! Hope everyone else checks in!
so far, almost all my relatives and friends have checked in and they are all in good locations, most of them have confirmed that they have either have opened their homes to effected friends or are offering to do so.
still need one uncle who lives in a effected Calgary area to check in yet. Everyone stay safe out there!

It's a very interesting situation.
I take Calgary Transit to work and am taking notice of the difficulties the transit sysyem is having in dealing with the flooding/road closures/traffic snarls.
We live far from the rivers in an area that is in absolutely no danger of even local flooding.
During the last flood (2005?), there were people with pumps going around assisting those with flooded basements. I like the idea. I have a pump but don't know where to go & assist. Anybody have a clue how I can find out?
All good here, never been so happy to live in the hood. The water will not make it, and if it did , would likely turn back and go the other way 😆
With the rain looking like its going to go for another week on and off, you may want to take advantage of the running water and fill a bathtub up now just in case.
You can follow the twitter feed for #abflood at http://www.canadianpreppersnetwork.com

You are correct. They expect the Bow to overflow even more because of all the rain that is yet to come to Calgary and the west of Calgary. No telling what issues this will bring. Also, be prepared for power outage. It seems Calgary is doing very well with evacuation and then shutting off gas and power, but you never know. Hope everyone is safe.
yes so far emergency services are managing to keep up with the evacuations. CFD is rounding up the stragglers in the river boat, which last I heard was cruising up and down elbow drive lol.
I hope everyone is stocked up on water as well. If the damns become comprimised and the sewage continues to back up, we will not have clean running water. I just made a quick trip to sobeys to pick up a few extra 5 gallon jugs for my grandparents, and I bought the last 4 they had on the shelf. I had one man offer to buy them from me in the parking lot. People have already started to settle in to the "panic buy" stage, so hopefully everyone here is already well stocked!
The canadian military is on scene now, I watched several convoys come in through the northern corridor (QE2 to stoney trail), and so far sand bagging efforts are still under way. there is not much else they can do for the areas that are already effected, and many people have already lost their homes along the river. The radio stations are covering the events well, and so is the local news.
Good luck to everyone in the effected areas. and please do emergency services a the favor of staying off the roads if you can help it. The last thing they need is to be dealing with car accidents!
See you all after.

LOL you and me both buddy. Forest lawn and area doesn't look so bad now with its nice high ground well away from the river valleys
