there are things that can be tested like stoves, fire starting kits, footwear and clothing layers depending on the weather we luck out with, bag comfortability and so on. Lets see who else can chime in on this and aim for this coming weekend. I live right on Fish Creek so it's easy to get to.
That's exactly what I had in mind. Will send you a pm.
Could someone give me the location of the next meeting or where to find it? Tx
I think Saturday morning... 9am at Fish Creek park at the bottom of Elbow Drive. I will have the beat up red subaru wagon.
FYI... Sunday there is a Prepper Meet & greet at the NcNight Aviation hangar (silver jeep). Head east on Mcnight just past 12ave and head north on 15th. There is another thread on here about this. http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2158
No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each day thankful because someone somewhere else right now is fighting for theirs
I suggest you load your pack with what you figure is a 3 day survival. Clothes, gear, food if you got it. I sadly dont have any MRE's at this point so will compensate with some dry food and a few things just to get an idea. Wear your footwear and clothing you think that day will require and the rest in the bag. If I may suggest... bring tarps or things like that instead of tents. Bring wool blanket or trust in your clothing for sleeping instead of a sleeping bag unless you have one of those super small lightweight units. Your testing a few day BOB instead of all your gear for permanent outdoor survival. In this scenario... the 3 day BOB would get you to a new location or out hiding until you can return. It might also be to get you from your car to home on foot possibly. So many possible scenario's that could come into play here of course.
We can walk around the park for say... an hour just to get a rough idea. Trust me when I say that a few hours with even 10lbs on your back is very hard but you work up to it with each day you do it. After about an hour we can find a fire pit and play around testing gear and watching and learning from one another.

New to site but not to prepping. Have been reading some of the recent messages about getting small groups together. Think A Jackson is right on this one. There is a difference between careful security and paralizing paranoia. Actually the more people prepped the safer all of us are.
Looks like Saturday morning will be -2 and only warm up to 4 degrees. Decently cool weather to wear layers and shed them as need be over time. Perfect practice for layering. See you guys sat morning.

Hi guys, it's too bad I just saw this thread now. I'd love to join you but I'll be out backpacking at Mt. Yamnuska from Saturday to Tuesday. 🙁
I'll try to stay up to date with the threads for next time.
RabbitTeeth... take us with you next time. 😉

Just a reminder that tomorrow morning (Saturday) I will be at the parking lot at the bottom of Elbow drive in Fish Creek Park at 9am. Will wait until 9:30. We are doing just a small 1 hour hike with our 3 day BOB's and clothing. It's supposed to be a combo of snow or rain or both with -7 in the morning and only warming to 6 degree's. This is ideal weather to test your layers and gear for weight and comfortabilty and get a rough idea of things. We will also stop around 10:30 at one of the fire pits and play around with our stoves and fire starters etc. I will bring some scrap wood for you guys to split and splinter to make a small fire with. If you want a full on pit fire be my guest but you will need to bring the wood for that. Mine is just small lengths from pallets at work to bust up into kindling. Try not to load your bag with full on tents and sleeping gear but hopefully you will have foil survival blankets, tarps and small survival gear in your bag. Most likely in a real SHTF story... big heavy camping gear will always start in your vehicle as you make a run for things. Once the car dies or cant go any further... then you worry about carrying that stuff.
See you guys at the parking lot

looking to tag up with calgary and area people, we are a small group who has an interest in long term food prep. We have a location in Calgary where we meet on a weekly base. We would be interested in hearing some ideas, we have already purchased equipment such as....dehydrators....chamber vacuum sealers...meat slicer....cooking equipment...diesel and gas generators....we are experimenting with solar and wind power as well....our next purchase will be ....canner and flash freezer. We are in the trial and error stage, hope to hear from interested people.
thanks

Hello Big and welcome to the forum. You might want to split your email address up so that we can understand it but automated web robots cannot i.e. online_ pc_ repair at hotmail dot com. With all the Google bots etc that troll the site you might end up getting a lot of junk mail.
