"fun" helps us to see all angles and entertain alternate points of view.... without it just become staid bigots.... my 2 cents.

also some more food for thought, as a new prepper ive been doing research on making your own weapons, especially the bladed variety. It seems to me that it is not that complicated, and can be done with a variety of materials and limited mechanical assistance. I have found some interesting pages on the subject if anyone is interested in this subject.

Also, if anyone has any other links to websites or good suggestions for books to read on the topic, I would be greatly interested.
My main field of interest involves knives, axes/tomohawks, spears, and bow and arrow. I feel that these 3 weapon choices should be able to cover me and close, medium, and long range after my initial stockpile of guns/ammo runs out, or if I need to arm others in my party.

(the bonus is that these weapons dont have to be registered lol. I plan to start practicing now to gain proficiency at it so I have it as a skill when SHTF. also I think that it could be an effective skill to have for bartering. Who doesnt like weapons?)

Are you guys telling me that squirrels aren't just cute and fuzzy little things that live in trees and collect nuts? They aren't nasty....are they?

hi susannah, the squirrels in Canada are terribly vicious LOL. My eldest daughter is marrying a guy from Queensland this fall and they will reside in Canada. She got totally taken in by the drop bears when they were there! I need to know, do they really fall out of trees on top of people. LOL I know by the "football" the Aussies play that they are tough but those bears must really hurt. 🙂

Oh yeah, gotta watch those drop bears..... they are just as nasty as your squirrels (just kidding - no such thing as drop bears 😆 it's a joke to scare anyone who hasn't been out bush before......you should see their eyes when you tell them to watch out for drop bears - newbies end up with eyes like saucers 😯 )

We are still stuck with registration in Ontario, to the best of my knowledge. Quebec is gonna still do it too I heard. It'll be picked up by provincial do-gooders.

There is no substitute for a firearm in trained hands when it comes to defense. That being said your crossbow does have infinite ammo lol

Not true. Arrows are easily lost as they can be fired all the way into the ground. In the bush too or long grass sometimes they can just hide. Not only that but tips and blades can break. And the "feathers" sometimes need to be replaced too. Constant upkeep needed on the actual crossbow too. In a SHTF situation this could be a big problem.

Benefits of crossbow: Stealthy, and has a higher chance of piercing a vest (if you're shooting within 40 yards, and depending on the ammo). Guns benefits though are obvious. Longer range, magazines instead of single shots, faster reload time, more power.

I love my crossbow, but I have to agree with most of the people on here. The gun has the overall advantage.

Greetings Fellow Squirrels;
Remember earlier in the post the nice person was asking how to protect the family without being able to legally buy a firearm?
Some suggested bow and arrow, crossbow, sling shot etc. The valuable point about a good dog or two came up, which is also like adding a member of the family.
Another very important thing we all need to have is an effective escape plan. When push comes to shove, the intruders may have the strength to take your belongings, which can be replaced, but getting away with your loved ones is job one.
Not to say a boobie trap like the squirrels can't be turned on the bad guys once little Timmy and Sarrah have gone down the hidden path past the willows... hehehehe
But yah, my vote is no matter how much defense you have, an egress is a no brainer.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
