I know that this post isn't going to make me any friends but here goes.
In the months since I've joined the IPN, I've read quite a number of posts from those who do not want any guns. They are adamant that they're going to find alternate means of defence for their family. If TSHTF and the rule of law no longer applies, I can see any number of examples where the conversation will go something like this. (Husband) - "I'm sorry honey, my slingshot/bow/slingbow wasn't very effective against these predators and their guns". "I'm just going to have to stay tied to this post while the predators violate and torture you and our daughter before they kill me and take everything". (Wife) - " You're right dear husband, a gun would have been far better but we just weren't important enough for you to go through the extra time and effort of learning about and purchasing one".

If your family is at all important to you, then the only reason not to have a decent means of defence, to put you on an equal footing with predators, is a physical disability or legal roadblock. When I decided on which guns I thought I needed for a SHTF situation, I bought them. I didn't look at a gun and decide it was too much, I looked at my family and started putting money away. Sometimes it took months to save enough for what I wanted but I saved until I could afford it. There are those out there who can't afford it right now but want to. For those, keep working at it, even a little at a time. One of my guns, I literally saved pocket change for many months to purchase. For those of you who say you don't want guns, Thank You. While the predators are partying and living high on the food and supplies they took from you, it gives me more time to add to my defences.
Defend your family with a slingshot or with a gun, how important are they to you?

Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.

There will be a time when you run out of ammo for all your guns and then you need alternative defense weapons.

@gravlore: there will come a time for certain, that you run out of ammunition... But hopefully you've stockpiled enough to make sure your the last one who does! As long as everyone else is empty too, your still on an even playing field. Also, I like your moat/fence idea, as it it something I have considered as well for when I am able to purchase my own land. Deterent, upon deterent, upon deterent, all bucked up with a gun and the will to use it if need be. Seems to the be the best idea I've heard on protecting your families.

I definately have an opinion on whether or not our weapons should be registered or legal. But that's a discussion for a meet up.
Paranoid? 😯 Who me? LOL

also some more food for thought, as a new prepper ive been doing research on making your own weapons, especially the bladed variety. It seems to me that it is not that complicated, and can be done with a variety of materials and limited mechanical assistance. I have found some interesting pages on the subject if anyone is interested in this subject.

Also, if anyone has any other links to websites or good suggestions for books to read on the topic, I would be greatly interested.
My main field of interest involves knives, axes/tomohawks, spears, and bow and arrow. I feel that these 3 weapon choices should be able to cover me and close, medium, and long range after my initial stockpile of guns/ammo runs out, or if I need to arm others in my party.

(the bonus is that these weapons dont have to be registered lol. I plan to start practicing now to gain proficiency at it so I have it as a skill when SHTF. also I think that it could be an effective skill to have for bartering. Who doesnt like weapons?)

There is no longer registration of long guns in Canada. Yes you have to have a PAL to purchase ammunition and long guns and yes in some provinces the dealer will record your PAL number and firearm serial number and specifics in a book. This is how it was done before they started the registry. Once you take it home you can then sell it or trade it to anyone who has a valid PAL. You are NOT required by law to record the transaction. I fail to see the ongoing "issues" regarding long guns. Yes you must have a PAL and yes the Government knows you have a pAL.. but they have no idea WHAT you may personally own.

I belive the issue is that very similar registries were in place in pre-ww2 germany. When it came time to remove the threat of civilian uprising (mainly the jewish public and sympathizers) , they simply looked in their files, saw who had guns, then went and siezed them by force. The majority of those firearms were put into the national armories and used on front lines, and the rest were destroyed. The ability to disarm the public is a power that no government should have. Although there are several important reasons to screen and keep track of who has firearms for the publics safety, I don't see the reason to keep track of who has what.

Perhaps they could have a "fire arm purchasing license" like the pal, but once you have it there is no reason to keep track of what or how many you purchase. As long as you abide the rules of fire arm possession, you can purchase whatever you want with no record of the transaction being kept, even by the dealers.

JustABear said..."Once you take it home you can then sell it or trade it to anyone who has a valid PAL. I am aware of the issues and outcomes in Nazi Germany.... we are ALL aware of the potential... but... look at what I wrote please.

You know folks... no one has mentioned a few cages of hungry, aggrivated squirrels at the ready.
The unsuspecting invaders of our community would be significantly reduced in numbers by malnurished rodents.
Kind of a one use weapon, but worth the entertainment value.

Now that I hopefully have lightened the mood...
What about the other side of the coin?
Please check the post of the same name.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

Q-Man,

Now that your nuts are being protected by rabid squirrels, how are you going to able to direct them to those who invade your property??

Just wondering.

If they're hungry enough nature will take it's course, but we might want to have a few pounds of almonds on hand to get them filled up before we venture out after the event...
