opium poppies are legal to grow for ornamental purposes, and could provide some much needed pain relief as well
wouldn't want to have a tooth extracted without some pain relief!!!
I hear CryBaby has a still... another good bartering item.
As for effective home remedies, while hiking in Peru we suffered a bit of GI aggitation. The remedy we were givin was a tea made from fresh celery. I would not have guessed that it would settle our stomachs but it did. Go figure.
Antsy
Needs must when the devil drives.
I have always found that Camille tea helps settle my stomach, also for relaxing me so that I may sleep on a restless night. Pregnant should not take this as it will slow the fetus heart rate drastically. 😯

I`m hoping that birth control of every type is on the list of all fertile females (the males should have it on their lists too, but I believe in looking after yourself) Maternity vitamins should also be in there in case of opps. Nurishing a baby in a SHTF senario is not a good plan and the risk to mom and babe in childbirth is high without medical care available quickly. And the kids you already have need you (and their dad) for their best chance of survival.
Has anyone here read The Union Creek Journals? A couple of entries in there mention something called "thieves oil". After reading about it in the journals, I googled thieves oil. It sounds like a very interesting type of home remedy.

Hydrogen Peroxide is a great high-level disinfectant and this is what is should be used for. At room temp a 6% solution of Hydrogen Peroxide is bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal in 10 minutes, it doesn't produce harsh fumes and is safe for use with rubber, plastic, and SS. In a prep like situation its great for preventable measures. But this doesn't mean you should be mixing it with your drinking water.
I was asked to say what isnt true about the following heres a short list
The problem is that most humans are NOT able to get proper amounts of oxygen in their cells and tissues. This is due partly to:
* poor air quality * poor breathing habits * cooking and over-processing of our foods * unrestrained antibiotic use * oxygen-depleting activities
Wrong, most people are able to get the oxygen needed from the lungs to their cells and tissues. This is affected by diffusion rate of the gases and perfusion of the blood. The diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide will continue until the partial pressures of these gases reaches an equilibrium. This usually takes 0.25 seconds. Under normal resting conditions the total transit time for blood to move through the alveolar-capillary system is about 0.75 sec, therefore diffusion of these gases is completed in about a 1/3 of the time it takes for the blood to pass. During exercise the blood passes through at a much faster rate, in a healthy lung ( which most people have ) oxygen equilibrium still occurs, but with certain pulmonary diseases the time available may not be adequate. Some of these diseases include Atelectasis (Alveolar collapse) , Alveolar Consolidation (Pneumonia), Alveolar-Capillary Destruction (Emphysema)
Deep breathing won't get the proper amount of oxygen to the cells and tissues either because only 15% of the Oxygen You Inhale is absorbed into the bloodstream....
Not sure what they are talking about here. If they are referring to Anatomic dead space ( gas you breathe that doesnt participate in gas exchange, about 2.2ml/kg of ideal body weight) so a 150lb person has about 150ml of dead space ventilation. The amount of air that person would breathe under rest would be about 550 ml to 700mls which would mean 70-80% of the oxygen you breathe would be available for gas exchange.
Oxygenation Therapy, (HP) brings the cells and tissues of the body to an oxygen-rich state. It does this by directly introducing pure oxygen molecules into your body for your cells.
ahhh ok you do this when you breathe. But I think its referring to is the increase the partial pressure of O2 in the blood to be delivered to the cells. Thats great we do this all the time with Oxygen therapy = giving supplemental oxygen via a mask/ nasal cannula, etc. The only issue with using Hydrogen peroxide to do this is that Hydrogen peroxide is broken down by the body by different enzymes, almost like a defense to detoxify the body. One is Catalase which converts H2O2 to H2O and O2, additionally Glutathione peroxide does this as well. H2O2 is also converted by myeloperoxidase in neutrophils to hypochlorous acid that acts as a bactericidal agent. Lastly H2O2 is converted my metal ions to OH, OH is not good. it can react with lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and carbohydrates which can lead to formation of DNA-protein cross-links, single- and double-strand breaks, base damage, and protein fragmentation. H2O2 is in your body. Dont overload your body with concentrations it cannot handle, to me thats not worth the risk.
I will continue to use Hydrogen Peroxide for many different things and its something every prepper should have, but i wouldnt mix it with my drinking water.
