I was reading on what this order entails and I do not like it one bit. I wonder if any of you law types know if Canada has a similar law to this USA law signed by Pres Obama in 2012. Makes me think about all the b/s personal information we send to the govt means they are making a database on us and putting us into categories for something "just in case" or maybe I am paranoid. I rather be on guard than be blind sided when "SHTF" and oh yea! it will be messy.
Hey Regularguy,
Do you happen to have link or source??
Sounds interesting. Something that should be discussed in the light of day and definitely not lurking in the dark shadows.

Here is a link to the subject of this thread.

If our government's new habit of using massive omnibus budget legislation as a tool to push through unrelated policy continues, it is possible. Note that I am not saying likely; only possible. I haven't read the US legislation and don't exactly understand the motives behind it, or its anticipated efficacy. I'm certain that the fact that there are more privately owned fire arms in the US than citizens isn't lost on the executive branch of US gov't. I don't believe that we can expect to see press gangs driving down Main Street USA any time soon.
I think the bigger issue here is one of our understanding of freedom. I believe that it goes without saying that the word "freedom" has been sorely abused over the last century or more. When our governments use the word, there should be a (TM) in small print behind it so that the grass roots understands that they are being spun. Now for the most part, your average citizen is more than happy to sacrifice personal freedoms for security. Western governments know this all too well and have nurtured a culture of fear among their citizens while clawing back personal freedoms. No big secret agenda here. It is simply easier to manage a large system when one has more power to control it without constant oversight. The problem is that once that control has been taken away from the people, it tends to be abused by the governing authority within a short time frame.
Embracing the "culture of fear" is a great challenge for the Prepper community. I have observed that preppers appear to be much more libertarian in their beliefs than the average citizen. Ironically, the Prepper community seems to eat up the "fear mongering" that media, and government (is there a difference?) feeds us as if it were candy. One would think that because we are somewhat prepared for the tough times in life, we would be islands of calm it the storms around us. Could this be further from the truth?

Thank-you JustABear for the linking the article.
So as you can see all freedom is practically loss and it becomes a dictatorship so to speak in the interest of preserving none other than the ones in charge and all others would be collateral. I don't want to get into FEMA camps and such but it is there. I just hope that Canada never get into that sort of situation. Hurricane Katrina proves that the authorities will do anything to protect themselves first by raiding honest citizens and robbing them of their rights to protect themselves.
JAB & Oldschool,
That is very scary stuff, indeed.
Antsy,
Very valid observations about sheeple management. It goes to reason that those who are not addicted to lame stream news and reality TV, would be more cautious of government intentions and thus more likely to take defence of their personal and collective security more seriously. Even if those actions of personal protection, are evoked to draw out such reactions.
Mountainman.
Excellent insight as always Antsy!
This stems from something started around WW2. US and Canada both have an emergency powers act where they can take whatever they want.
Every President and Prime Minister has probably signed it.
Obama has added "under both emergency and non-emergency conditions". Every signing has added amendments to give them more power.

Thanks for the link Perfesser. Gotta love Snopes! It used to be that sex sells but I think fear works just as well nowadays...
I have been trying to understand this topic, but my head is just too full of squirrels and confetti...
The simple truth is I am far more interested in educating myself on surviving the impending tribulation/alien invasion than to worry about such silly things as politics or money...especially in light of the fact that none of us can or will do anything to change where we are headed...and most sheeple just watch lame stream media, and believe that our government has our best interests at heart!
(THEY would never try to poison their citizens!!! Quel horreur!! Monsanto? What chemtrails?? 😆 )
I am so confused about this, that i don't even know if this link i am putting here is the same topic as the original post, so i apologize if i am way off base...i didn't know where else to post this...so just have your laugh, You, & IGNORE ME if this is the case!!

I have tried to read this article, but i might as well be trying to read latin...
Could someone please break this down and explain it to me as if you were explaining it to a class of 3rd graders? 😳 Much appreciated!
(I think it's rather obvious i don't really care what anyone thinks of me...i just want to understand this from a prepper's point of view!)

Perhaps it's time to think carefully about your cash savings and where they are. I've talked about Credit Unions before, this might get me off my butt to open an account and move some cash there.
Also a good case to increase your "anonymous" holdings - physical precious metals.
We have been talking about this on another thread. Until the Cyprus situation came along if a bank was in danger of failing the government of the county to which the bank belonged stepped in and bailed out the bank. The government would use tax payers money because that is a governments only source of revenue.
Now in Europe particularly there have been a number of governments that have themselves have got into financial hot water and were indeed in danger of failing (Iceland, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal etc.). These countries went to other wealthier countries or organizations with which they were affiliated such as the European Union or the IMF for a bailout. Again tax payers money was used to prop up these governments. At this point many governments do not have the money to prop up their own banks so have to seek external aid.
I guess these wealthier institutions which themselves are predominately financially supported by Germany have said enough is enough. The new paradigm is that if a bank is in trouble the customers and the depositors of that bank are responsible to bring the bank into fiscal well being. This is done by the government passing a piece of legislation that allows the bank to "confiscate" as much money as required from the people who are customers of the bank. Individuals and companies day to day bank accounts and savings accounts are raided. Whereas you savings used to be insured by the government this is no longer the case. Even if you don't have any money in the bank but have a loan for anything from a car to house with that bank that loan could theoretically be called in. If you could not pay it off you would lose whatever the assets were.
It is a very significant change to the banking system. For those of you who thought your money was safer in the bank think again!

Thank you, Perfesser...and i follow with another stupid question:
How does a Credit Union differ from a regular bank?
Thank You, ICRCC....You are truly a great help! My heart is racing...I really had no idea what all of that meant ... Thanks for putting it so clearly...I have so many questions, but i can't formulate them right now...I need to think about this!
But one thing that readily comes to mind for either of you:
What about a work pension fund??
Is this safe, especially i you wouldn't even have access to it for years, or can they seize this as well?
