Hi Guys 🙂

I was checking out the farmers almanac and wondering what you all think of these "predictions". They are all calling for a "normal" winter except one, which is calling for below average temperatures and above average snowfall. Has anyone else used these and what value are they? I am a little concerned as we live out of town and wondering if the pantry should be a little more stocked than normal... I just remember the old farmers around us treating them like a weather bible, any ideas would be great! Thanks in advance

I somewhat equate this to an old joke about asking an Indian elder about how he forecaster the coming winter weather. The elder replied " I go out my back door and look at my white man neighbors pile of wood. If the wood pile is small I predict a mild winter. If the woodpile is huge I predict a long cold winter."

To back that up I'll look at ...

Just curious too.

Than= I’d rather be rich than poor.
Then= I first became hungry then I ate.
There = She is there now.
Their = They have their things.
They're = They're going to the mall.
To = They came to the house.
Too = That's too bad.

HI campingmom!

I couldn't tell you if the almanac was accurate or not however (as someone who likes having a large pantry) I would just use that as one more reason to stock up. Even if the weather isn't terrible it's nice to be supplied so you can sit at home and not HAVE to go out.

Of course that depends a little on how much food you normally stock and what your goals are. We could easily last for several weeks without even noticing - how about you??

In my experience, the almanac is almost dead on, every time.
The most accurate weather prediction I remember was this July, when I looked into the weather that was predicted for the weekend on the Huntsville meet.
Predicted:thunderstorms followed by sunny but cool.
Spot on as we drove through a severe thunderstorm to get there on Friday (a tornado was spotted in the area at the exact time we went through).
Saturday and Sunday were quite nice, with very cool nights.

Thanks Guys! My pantry is quite stocked so I think we will be alright if it is really crummy out, I could probably wait it out a month without worrying too much about the food. Denob, I agree with you regarding the accuracy of of the almanac, it just matters more now that I am not in town. Anita, you are right, a stocked pantry out here is definitely important we have been stranded out here for 3 weeks with our truck high centered in a snow bank... Which made me realize that being more prepped is far better than eating soup and pancakes for two weeks. Ha ha ha! Thanks for the advice guys 🙂

An update regarding the Farmers Almanac... I do believe now, seeing about 10 inches of snow outside in the beginning of November, that the one almanac predicting above average snowfall may be correct. Glad we went and stocked up a little more than normal this fall. We are feeling quite cozy and not worrying as much about going out in this mess:). I hope you all are enjoying some family time too!

I've always considered the old farmers almanac to be a pretty good source for weather predictions; on long range forecasting...
Although as of late, the weather seems to be finding and cutting a new path...And its always been my practice to have a nice stock in the pantry, regardless of any body's, or books predictions for future weather predictions..

Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
