Our church (LDS – Mormon) in Calgary, has a full working dry cannery for use to its members and friends. If you are interested in doing some dry packing for your food storage please feel free to contact us and we can arrange to go and do some canning. All we need is a group of six or more, but obviously the more hands we have, the faster we can...The Cannery asks that you do not bring your own food in order to prevent cross-contamination. This is a good and easy way to get a lot of food storage at a low cost, very fast...

The cost is minimal. The church does not profit from this, it is a service to members and friends...We can with #10 cans, or pouches...
For example we carry: Wheat (two kinds), Rice, Sugar, Beans (several kinds), dry carrots, dry onions, potato pearls, dry milk, rolled oats, flour, spaghetti and more...

If you're interested, please email me with any questions. I can provide you with a price list and we can set up a date and time to do our canning...!

LDS in Sherwood Park will also allow people to purchase goods and book times to do canning as well. They are really nice to deal with, even for non-Church members. We have been out there and they were really helpful and went out of their way to give us lots of information. They are doing a great job at helping people with food storage.

A Very kind offer. I wish we had that opportunity locally. Snowandrain you might want to split your email address in your signature up so that we can understand it but bots cannot i.e. raincanada at telus dot com. With all the Google bots etc that troll the site you might end up getting a lot of junk mail.

And I notice a number of people have the LDS manual in their bookcase. I plan to get in for food next week-have to call first.

For those that are interested, and do not know about it, the LDS Preparedness manual can be downloaded here http://www.ldsavow.com/PrepManual.html .

I found this to be an excellent resource and every prepper should have a copy.

I must say, I am a little disappointed with the lack of interest to this offer to go to the cannery and add to your food storage...

I promise this is not a trick to get you to join the church...There are no missionaries at the cannery...We don't have a baptismal font hidden behind a secret door to push you into...hahaha! Don't be scared...lol...this is simply a service the church provides to its members and friends...Don't feel you have to buy hundreds of dollars worth of food...if you only want to can a few cans, that's an option also...This is an opportunity for you to visit a real cannery and work in a real cannery...

Unfortunately, so far, we have not had enough of an interest to go through with this project but I'm an internal optimist and I know I will find at least two more families interested in canning for their food storage...This will be my last plea... 🙂

I hope to hear from at least a few of you soon...

Rain 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ya c'mon friends. This could be a great opportunity for some of us to get a solid introduction to canning and expand our long term storage supply. I'm not LDS but certainly endorse and want to take part in this offer.

I was under the impression it was for members of the church. I may have read into this wrong. For the sake of educational purposes I would most certainly be interested in attending (date and time depending of course).
