This could happen in two different situations. For me it happened when i was out deer hunting two years ago. Keeping in mind i'm wanting to stay stealth / quiet due to hunting. Pack of coyotes comes up and gets near.. How do you handle it and not give off your position.
IF a SHTF situation happens how would you handle it to stay silent but defend yourself??
So far i have found they wont attack me. I have been fairly close to them at ready to pull the trigger of my rifle. I'm sure some day this might bite me in the arse but so far.. so good...
Super cool, I wouldn't worry to much, yotes are jumpy animals and a good wave or HEY can do the trick to spook them off. Always have a can of bear spray with you can last resort is the gun.
yotes are typically very jumpy in my area as they have been well chased and shot off the farm lands, I know there is a few around my bol and as well as a momma bear and her cub. But the wolves here are very aggressive as well as I know a man personally attacked from a momma bear when he accidentally got between her and her cub on his pedal bike. Animal attacks are rare but happen and many many many are not reported. Being loud, aggressive and as mean as possible detours almost all in the bushes of north america. Never run from an animal looking at you or around you, stand your ground. This is hard to do, but have have been 10-15 feet from a black bear, we circled the quad a few times before it decided to go somewhere else, I was yelling at it and jumping up and down. But if it would have got jumpy or out of line as I seen it, I had a 3inch 00buck shell pointed right at it's face, just hoped I would miss the quad with all the pellets
My main solution to dealing with all of these animals is to get yourself off of the ground and into a tree stand or tree house, all these animals will get bored of looking at you and move on, wolves may require a warning shot. having a decently large caliber handgun, short pistol grip shot gun or cz 858 like rifle with pistol grip always makes me feel much better. The shorter the better; my friend that was attacked by the bear said the biggest thing is how you can manover your gun when you are getting attacked by something that really wants to kill you, long guns are just to hard to move with something stepping and jumping on you. He got many bites and a few shots off but in the end, how his bike landed on him and the bear trying to bite the metal of the bike more then him is what really saved him.
I almost always have a very large bear maze can with me in the bush, it is probably the best most silent way of pissing off or spooking an animal away from you. The effectiveness is more limited then you might believe and they are spray and shot or spray and run devices. I have seen foxes and bears get hit right in the face, run off and within 30 mins be chasing another pray around but not me or my brother 🙂 so I guess they detour more then anything; or perhaps add some flavouring to yourself for that bears enjoyment 🙂 j/k they are very good at clearing smaller or confined area's
I would try a high pinch device or whistle from the safety of a tree stand, I have always wanted to do this to see if something I can barely hear could spook or scare off an animal. But have yet to try it and all.
In conclusion all this is fine and dandy but if the attacker looking at you has rabies your best and only option is probably to just shot it. foaming mouth and over aggressive = dead asap.
Never underestimate the power of free! If someone has deemed something valueless, yet U see value in it; Then you've already made a profit and savings!
Fish and wild life has confirmed they have released 19 cougars in ministik bird sanctuary.. I wish we could carry hand guns in Alberta.. But no such luck..
I agree I would feel much safer with the ability to open carry a hand gun in canada, on the farm lands and in the bush

We need to lobby the Government through the CSSA, our MPs and MPPs to have the Firearms Act modified for such purpose as Open Carry in Back Country / Remote locations, and have the restrictive nature of the CFOs removed and control of applications / background checks returned to the local constabulary.

You know the police in Canada is the same as USA. All they want is get rid of guns for civilians cause it threatens them if normal people have guns for any lawful reasons.
Well, it's just that I can remember back to the mid to late 80s when instead of a PAL it was an FAC.
And, if you wanted to get a Restricted for handguns, it wasn't near as bad as it is now.
Plus, I remember when fellow Gun Club members who worked part of the year in the far north were allowed to take their side-arms with them - as deterrents or for defense in wild-life settings.

Would be nice, but lets face it......it is a pipe dream; they will never relax the laws around restricted weapons.

Not true.. Out of all of the RCMP i know more of em wish the gun laws would be more lax for the guys that do the background checks.
