I don't want to be a scare monger but I would like to know what you guys think will happen to the USA in October. There has been a lot of info thrown around about this but goes under the radar.
Personally, I don't see either side coming to terms in time, so i believe that there will be a shutdown.
The real question is for how long?
I'm starting to see the logic behind the "FEMA region 3" thing, although at the time the warning came out, no one made this correlation.
If FEMA has been stockpiling the supplies that many have claimed, it would stand to reason that they expect this situation to deteriorate.
I wonder how many people in the DC area will be temporarily out of work when this shutdown occurs, and yes, I believe it will happen as of midnight tonight.
The city only holds enough reserve cash to fund their payroll for one pay period of 2 weeks.
After that, there could be issues if the city can't pay their employees.
The longest government shutdown lasted 3 weeks, and this time, there is the debt ceiling issue just 2 weeks from now...a double whammie!
Wow. I hadn't really been too up on what is happening, but now that I have seen things posted here (one of the many wonderful reasons I belong to this forum), I see there could potentially big problems. Most likely things will get rolling again in the U.S. in little time and they will increase the debt ceiling, but there is that chance that this all drags out. I can't help but think how woefully under-prepared I am 😕 I kinda feel like if I'm not better prepared in the next month, it would be very bad. Well, guess I have some work ahead of me in the coming weeks.

If it happens, it happens. Not sure about the broad implications for Canadians if there is a USA Government shutdown.
Now if it affected the commercial and/or health care sector, then I would be concerned for my close American friends.
But I'm still not sure it will affect us Canadians, unless I am just woe-fully uneducated in international politics - probably am.

Is what you say worth at least a Canadian nickel now?

I am also woefully uneducated in international politics. Based on things I have read, I am thinking that if the shutdown is short-term and they pass legislation in mid-October to raise the debt ceiling, then Canada won't be terribly affected. However, if it were to go on for an extended period of time and/or they do not raise the debt ceiling and the U.S. defaults, then the U.S. economy is going down, which will affect Canada because they are a close trading partner, etc. I may be way off on this, but this is my line of thought based on what I have read. Perhaps if it is long-term, then we Canadians have a bit more time to prepare?
Yes exactly what I was thinking about Denob. Is the USA preparing for a possible militia uprising? Or maybe taking advantage of some foreseen disaster coming and or preparing for another false flag for justification imposing marshal law again. What ever it is we are all under prepared for it.
Its not the first few days of October that I am worried. Its the level of law decaying and panic ensues when this kind of thing happens a few days/weeks after when supplies are low.
The US govt has pre prep for a lot of known disasters but only looking after their own ranks to keep in control and not use their supplies to help the helpless. It will happen again. It is just a matter of when.
Sorry double post
To add a little levity to the discussion ....
Found an interesting discussion thread elsewhere defining what "FEMA" really stands for:

Well what if nothing is going to happen fast , in October, but the governments are taking stock of world events , converging risks and the circumstances and consequences that can and those that will predictably arise.
I think a shut down is very possible indeed, but a lengthy one is not so possible. The president holds a lot of power to keep things going when the government grid locks, but with that said this morning some people in government offices were told to shut off their government cell phones, leave them on their desks and wait for a call at home if and when they will be able to come back to work, it is unlikely they will receive any compensation or back pay for this as well. These are people not making the big bucks, and probably doing the common and unwise paycheck to paycheck thing. Funding the military and the people offering there time to the cause is a really tricky thing past 5-6 weeks, after that amount of time the stock would have fallen pretty good as fear of not getting the check rises dramatically past this amount of time. but I do not think it will last any more then a week or two. The longer it is shut down, the more layers of government it will effect until the last layer where it could possibly hit medicare and the education systems, but no shut down in history I believe has ever went that far.
I still believe the biggest deal to be had is the debt ceiling and the possibility that the USA will default on some or all of it's obligations. 17 trillion is a crazy number, it is huge and only getting bigger as time goes on. By 2017 it will be around the 20 to 21 trillion mark if the states does not attack anyone in the world. all bets are off if they do attack a country. To put things into prospective, if interest rates rise then this amount of debt can become extremely hard if not impossible to pay off. The interest just to service the debt will be more then can be paid. While indeed if this happens it will be the start of the 1st sovereign currency crises in the USA. I do believe they are in deep trouble and only a matter of time before they and/or the world realizes it.
To fix the problem it would take everything in the states not paying a single cent to all of the government and government paid workers, no defensive, military, school, entitlement programs, road work ect. every single dolllar would have to go to the debt, but people need to be paid so this is unlikely, even at half rates it would take the entire GDP of the USA for three or more years to pay off with huge huge unbelievably huge cuts to almost everyone and very high taxes. This would almost certainly kill the american economy and the stock market would be long dead and belief it as an economic power and reserve currency. They will be unable to borrow money from other countries. And may have to impose martial law and widespread gold and silver confiscations.
I think a redirecting and cutting of the american entitlement programs and paying down debt over the next few decades is the only realistic options. Social security, Medicare, defence and war, income security, federal pensions, all need to be chopped to almost nothing. This alone can cause an out cry and martial law like state.
"It's going to be the sequester from hell jacked up on steroids and redbull"
Other countries may also become unstable from all this american action and begin to fail as well. most likely japan, but there has to be a few more that are also on the edge. The results will be overwhelming negative of the american stock exchange, but may also prove to power other stock exchanges around the world to new highs. But it will be a global uncertainty and fear will hurt a lot everywhere, it is impossible to know the impact to Canada or anywhere else for that matter. History shows there can be great winners when there is great losers of wealth.

Oh, They are not there yet. A$$ covering will happen. News will report a few bad things. A few public deaths. Behind the scene folks will use it to pass things in exchange for votes and probably get rich or a better social position . Self congratulation on how they pulled us back from the brink. Political cheer leading. Same thing a few months from now as the game continues.
Not falling off a cliff but bouncing down a rocky hill. Or so says my crystal ball. The problem with being a pessimist is being around the block a few times and always being "That Guy". Ild like them to just get on with it so we can all move on....Its like a co dependent relationship where the break up and beatings don't stop them making up next week.
As for Canada...Tourism will suffer.....

I think cernunnos5 is an extreme optimist. I sincerely hope he is correct but fear a far worse outcome.

I dunno. My prediction is looking pretty good so far.
A$$ covering- check

A few public deaths- double check
Behind the scene deals- check
Im looking like a friggin holy prophet at this point
Im not saying it doesn't crash. Its already crashed and we are simply bumping along on the roof of the car as it accordions on a slow motion real. Forget the specifics and look at the bigger picture. We still haven't even made it to the "RELACEMENT dollar" yet that gets traded for the dollar that nobody trusts. We still have a few more Bumps Along the accordion to go. Best to get a toboggan for less butt rash

Well, I've always considered myself a prophet in hindsight, after recalling various opinions I kept to myself.
With this present situation in the USA, Yes, I am concerned.
But will the USA do a currency change? That is something I'm hoping for friends SOB to not happen.

I had a listen to Peter Schiff who I greatly respect. Schiff was ridiculed by the MSM when Bernanke said he was looking at QE reductions and Schiff called BS! Guess what happened???
Schiff has a good interview with Alex Jones on Youtube (I know Alex can be pretty 'abrasive' on a good day. Skip the fist 2 mins to get to the guts of the story and Peter NAILS IT!)
With about 72% of Canadian exports going to the USA (last time I checked between 1 and 2 years ago) I think Canadians are in for a heap of bad times. (This is my broken record/rant part of my post) "If you own the corner store and 70% of your customers go bankrupt, you are in for one hell of a rough ride."
I will still maintain that you can take that to the bank even though many economist guru's still place the Canadian dollar as being one of the 3 top currencies to own. While the pain will be less than many other countries we will hurt a lot none the less.
I only read about 60 pages of non MSM news each day as well as about 1/2 that of MSM news. BUT what the hell do I know???
I really truly hope I am wrong but am preparing for the worse. I also hope you are too.
