And I didn't even know it, I have noticed moose prints all over the last few days, everywhere, up to the house, down the road, not unusual to see but I just received a call from my neibourse and have been informed that a year old one, has set up home in a area of willows on my place they have been watching him, and aparrently he regularly steps out of the bushes to visit their horses and they snap pics of him.I was out cutting the grass on my archery range, and they say I was cutting all around him, and he didn't get spooked. he goes over to their property to visit but they say once the coyotes start to yell in the evening he heads back to my place, It must feel safe for him as my place is done in chain link, and coyotes rarely get in. I think I will set out a salt block and go (camera) hunting for him in a few days.

Well I went out looking for my guest, and I found her it is a her not a him, I should say them! Now I know why they have been hanging around, they must have come in through the back side of the property before the rains came, once the rains came the water was to deep for the calfs to go back out, and they are to small to jump the fence....so they have been stuck here.
This was taken right at dusk from about 100 feet, Look down from the center spruce tree and the base you can make out the moose in profile looking to the left, the calfs are there but to small to see in the pic.
I just looked at this after posting and once I shrunk the picture down you cant see the moose.
in this Pic I opened up a gate to let them out, but things didn't go the way I wanted.....this pic is shaky cause I snaped it while she charged me, she is the dark spot between the spuce trees, she is maybe 65-75 feet away and coming fast, she looks small in the pic but that's only because she is running in a ditch, I had know idea that baby moose cry just like babies, or so it sounded to me.

I'm so jealous. I have moose somewhere on my land but seldom see them. I'll have to figure out my wildlife camera and try to catch them!
I too am jealous of your moose! I have seen signs of moose in the area other years, but not so this year. I have seen deer, elk, Canada Lynx, Cougar , Bobcat and Bear this year. The last four were up on our back porch, looking in at me. The Bobcat was here this morning. Unfortunatley, my camera was in the other room, so didn't get pictures. Camera is now right beside me.
Roughly around 2003. I was out to shoot some beavers that were taking too many of my trees. I don't mind sharing but they seemed to want them all. It was roughly this time of the year, maybe a week or two later. I staked out the pond. rifle in front of me covering the water. after a hour or so with the sun going down, I had the moisture from the ground working its way up through me ( I was prone). Directly on the other side of the pond two deer came over the hill to the edge of the pond to drink. I was looking them eyeball to eyeball over maybe 250-300 feet of water. I was as still as a rock. They began to move counter clockwise around the pond, munching on the grasses as they went. It took them about 45 minutes to get close to me. by then it was dusk and no matter how hard I tried I could not keep myself from shaking as the moisture from the ground, and the falling temps had got to me. I was fighting to stay still as with each step they came closer and closer. At about 30 feet they sensed something, they started sniffing the air with each step they took, they knew something wasn't right but didn't know where. At about 5 feet, that's all I was from them, they stopped, aware that something wasn't right, I was shaking uncontrollably due to being soaked from the moisture of the ground but I had slowly rolled, first to my side, then as they came closer I was almost on my back..I was looking up at them, and by 7-8 feet they were looking down at me, but not sure of what they were seeing. They stopped fully....I watch their breath, the depth that they inhaled, I seen their chest fill out on the inhail, and got to watch as they exhaled, and seen their nose flare out, if my arm would have been just a few feet longer I could have grabbed a leg. They didn't run, but stepped back, then turned and returned the way that they had come. I live in the best area I know....
