Canadian Tire has Yukon grear 4.5" folding cammo knife on for $6.99 - not bad for the price. Also a 10 function Swiss Army Knife for $9.99.

Just checked out costco.ca for any new bargains. They are now selling a 72 hour emergency Mountain House Food packages (3 breakfasts + 6 entrees) for $59.99 including shipping & handling. That is under $6.75 per meal which is a pretty fair price, and you don't even need to go to the store to pick them up. No Costco membership is required for online shopping so you even eliminate the membership fee.

I was at Sobeys the other night and they had flats of Campbell's soup on for 7.99$ for twelve cans that's a pretty good deal. But since I only had a basket I just bought two flats.

How does that work MorningCoffee? I dont have a membership so in order to get the deal I need to order online? I cant walk in the door? Sounds like a great deal for an emergency storage concept.

As MorningCoffee said you order it online with a credit card. You do not need a Costco membership to order online. The only reason they have a spot for the Costco membership number on their sign up page is so that those that have an executive membership can get their 2% cash reward. If you want to buy anthing at the store you will need a membership.

Thanks ICRCC. The Costco online site does not have to have a "membership" requirement to satisfy their suppliers. Many large suppliers don't want better deals being available to consumers than they can provide to their other big distributors. They give better deals to the Costco chain with the provision that the goods are only sold to members. Online doesn't have that same requirement it is only for those going through the doors. We have ordered buckets with gamma lids, some Thrive products, MRE's from Costco.ca and they arrive at our door and can be tracked online for delivery dates. No shipping costs, no driving to the store and standing in line, no membership fees make the site a really good value. We have an executive membership and we use American Express to pay for our purchases so we get a credit towards our rebates on both the membership side which is generally enough to pay our yearly dues and a nice bonus on our instore purchases that month and the Amex side which gives us a cheque to use instore to we get a double bonus on our purchases.

Scotty,

I am not sure if this would work. But you could use your hard earned cash to buy a pre-paid credit card (Visa or Mastercard) and then use the prepaid creditcard to make the purchase.

I do not have first hand experience with this as I have a credit card and no cash, so I use my credit card to make online purchases.

Maybe this helped, maybe not......

Scotty,

I see Costco site offers gift cards and a way to see whats left on it, on line. One can purchase those and use it to buy on line.
Never looked into them but probably can be bought at the store?
Not sure if they have a FAQs at their site, but might cover the gift cards...?

So thats two ways with GC's good idea of a prepaid CC. 🙂

The cure! I never put my VISA number online (secure transaction or not) for fear of someone lacking a moral compass and exceedingly good computer skills got a hold of that VISA number.

I spoke to a lady at a credit union I use and opened a savings account (the cheapest to use account with low numbers of purchases) and got a Master Card (I believe it's called a "Global Master Card") attached to that savings account and that account ONLY. It behaves more like a debit card but is recognized as a credit card by businesses. That Master Card can not access funds from any other bank account.

I leave minimal cash in that account and deposit into it shortly before I plan on making an online purchase. Each online purchase costs me an extra $0.75 in service charges BUT if someone were to get a hold of that card number it wouldn't be worth the effort to take the remaining funds out of that savings account.

Try it, you might like it.

Canadian Tire has has the Char-Broil Offset Smoker/Grill on sale for $129.99 ($50.00 off) Item #85-1019-0, page 17 of the flyer.
I have one and have used it to BBQ and also to smoke beef, pork, fish and make jerky.
I am buying a second one this weekend so I will have one at the cabin and one at home.
Also on this weekend is new item from Bushnell, 9-27X50 Zoom Binoculars. $64.99 (regular $129.99) Item #76-1072-2 page 20 of the flyer.
I am going to go have a hard look at these.
We had a few sets of Steiner 7-21X50 Zoom Bino's when I was in the military to test. They were very clear and the adjustment seemed to work well. I don't know if they were used after that as the program was still in the test phase when I got out.
Onthe same page is a Tasco 600 yard Rangefinder. $119.99 (regular $199.99) Item #76-1497-2.
I think for a person who needs optics, a backup for someone who already has good stuff or group purchase, these two optical items would be great for a scouting party or in an LP/OP.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

Canadian Tire also has those solar panels from Coleman on sale again. I'm sure they were mentioned somewhere before; was there any consensus on the value of these items? I'm thinking recharging batteries for radios and 18v drills etc.

thanks,

thanks,

If you are talking about the 20 watt amorphous panel I'd call that a pretty good buy at $3 per watt on a smaller panel. I have 30 watts of the same type of panel on my 'random camping' fifth wheel. The upside is the batteries (250 AH @ 12V) are fully charged when the trailer sits for a few days, I get extended time with 12V while camping without hookups or charging with an alternator. Amorphous panels also do better than most when partial shading of the panel comes into play.

The very first panel of this type that I bought recently died. It was only 23 years old so if you expect more than that I would suggest trying another type of panel.

Good find!
