Think your having a bad day? look at this, two others having a worse one...a owl and rabbit. this happened Sunday near my place, sadly I think this is the owl that lives at that back of my place. a huge nest thats been there for 20 or more years,

I suspect he swooped down, caught the rabbit and hit the line as he was going up....it would have been over for them both in a instant....took out the power to a house....owners off on vacation....just shows you never know whats going to get you...often what you dont expect.

You'd think he'd relax his grip as he died! Maybe the rabbit put a curse on him at the last second...

I remember shooting ducks and sometimes they'd hit the water and not come up. You'd figure they could only hold their breath for just so long! Then one time while scuba diving and playing nearer shore I came across a duck underwater who had a death grip on some seaweed. Nature has a whole lots of surprises as to it's inner workings and the reason why we often fail is that we simply don't know all the rules to the game they play.

BTW, that is a pretty big rabbit for what I can see is the size of the owl. He must have eaten chili the night before to have so much lift that he could haul such a payload! 😀

And if the same thing had occurred up here we'd have to consider maybe there was ice buildup on the wings! 😯 😎

I whole-hardheartedly agree.

Especially when good people try to do the right things. Unfortunately, some people's control and greed get in the way of good people trying to contribute to the greater good of humanity. Atleast, maybe, you were smart enough to figure out what transpired from a safe distance in this case.

But, but...free food! Pre-cooked... and NO tire tracks! Where is your prepper adventure?

You could at least ship the remains to the FAC so they might determine the cause of the crash..maybe it was a BUK missile system brought that owl down tooo!

My bet is that the HAARP weapon system was used to direct the owl into the line...
Wait, maybe there was a nano tech in the rabbit that made it do that...
Was either of them wearing a tin foil hat?

well I lost my owl as that picture showed....I got up this AM before the sun was up and looked out my back window and sitting in the tree was another owl

thats maybe 90 feet from the house, I waited for a hour until the sun came out and walked until I was maybe 40 feet from him and snaped this pic, his body is facing one way but when I started walking toward him he spun his head around 180 degrees and kept his eyes on me. I went back in and left him alone

2 hours later he is still there.

I have seen other birds, magpie, and such flying around and some landing on the branch right above him...I always thought other birds were scared of owls but they dont seem to be, or maybe they dont recognise him when he is so still.

I always attributed wisdom to an owl and it seems most of society does too. It is likely their patience that seems to make us take note such as you have. I remember heading out on a 10 day tour on bikes and seeing an owl resting on a big branch along the way about 40 miles into the ride. It too was a Great Horned Owl and their outline is distinct even at 60+ mph. I silently took his presence as a good omen as likely maybe my forefathers had and even noted that he again was there on my return home. It's funny how mankind often attributes such simple things as good fortune and then often paint a bit of mysticism to them as though they might be watching over you somehow...

We paint the fox as wise too, yet it seems they often get tagged by motor vehicles as they often hunt along roads at night. This makes them the most common roadkill in my country. I have spotted wolves from time to time watching me go by and have only seen one ever get tagged and that one was when struck by my friend's car, but we were doing well over 100 mph so I doubt he had much time to respond. Does this mean the wolf is that much smarter than the fox to avoid cars or just that their common prey doesn't play road tag as often?

We often view the Raven as a bad omen due to it's scavenger traits of devouring the dead as does the vulture. So mankind doesn't appreciate their presence and yet their instincts should be praised as they somehow seem to know just when a gun is being pointed at them and they immediately go into a kamikaze dive as a defense measure. I have tested this ability of theirs many times and yet when I point a broom instead, they never react in this same manner.

My only noteworthy incident I can recall with an owl was once when I was out shooting partridge, I'd clean them as I shot them and stick their breast on a tree branch for retrieval on my way back out(to fool those game wardens who can still count...). When returning, I couldn't find a breast and I was sure I had the right tree. Then as I came up on the next tree I saw an owl carrying the breast off. Seems he'd been following my trek and making like a bandit as all those others I'd placed on branches were also missing... seems I no longer use that retrieval trick anymore either!

Once when still a kid I treated a wounded big owl. I didn't know what it ate at the time so I offer various kinds of food from veggies to meaties, but it seems only take several bites of the food presented. Could put the owl on the hand and to prevent get hurting by the claw I always wear jackets. However later I realize that claws are quite sharp therefore the owl must know how much it must grab my hand so it claws will not penetrate too much. After a week or so I let it go and it keeps coming back to the tree near my window. And not even a month later some jack ass shot it when I wasn't around.

He has been coming back regular, I spotted him a couple times this week but was in a hurry so I didnt stop for pics, but I had time today to snap a few...and he has been returning to the exact same tree, sitting on a different branch though.
