Killing the hunting dog is like killing the golden goose. The lap dog is a plate of drumsticks.
What better way to find out what makes people tick than to ask tough questions?
I hear that "we need to band together" as a group if we are to survive.
Yeah right. What a joke.
At most, there would be only two maybe three folks here I let anywhere near me or my family in a dire situation.
I think this coming year is when the masses who think they are prepared finally realize just how unprepared they really are.
It's all coming undone and there's nowhere left to hide and no more games to play to mask reality.
If you want to survive, you must have a survival mindset. That begins with the will to survive and a belief that you will. In other words, plan like you're going to live a long time. Otherwise, don't bother at all. And if you plan to live a long time, then prepare to live a long time. Saying something is overkill cause you won't live long enough to use it is a defeatist attitude and a recipe for disaster. And if you don't live, so be it. You tried. It's better to have and not need, than need and not have.

BTW,
Next time my baseball bat is bloody, I will post a picture......
If you've ever eaten at the Foody Goody's in Edmonton (like I have, way back when) you've probably already eaten dog meat. 😕
For what it's worth, when Roald Amundsen beat Sir Walter Scott to the South Pole, he did so by taking many dogsleds and many dogs to pull them. As the sled's supplies were used up, the dog's that pulled them became the next meal. But they were definitely not his pets.
Crier you are absolutely right about mind set "If you want to survive, you must have a survival mindset". You will need to be absolutely ruthless in the maintenance and protection of your family. If the SHTF tomorrow we would likely all find that we have glaring holes in either our supplies or plans or both. We have not been through this kind of situation and we do not know what kind of event it will be. Reality will be both harsh and cruel. However those who prepare are definitely ahead of the curve. In the long term I feel that if you cannot reach complete sustainability after one year then you will be doomed. For many people this is hard to do. Likewise if you do not form or join a group the odds are stacked tremendously against you. Plan for the worst, hope for the best and practice all your drills and scenarios at every opportunity.

" Do you:
a) feed your family and dogs full meals to keep your strength up for the rigorous journey ahead, giving you food for approx 3 weeks?
b) ration food for everyone and your dogs giving you food for 4 weeks?
c) give your family full meals for 4 weeks, and leave the dogs to fend for themselves for as long as they can
d) kill the dogs to give you and your family food for 5 weeks"
None of the above.
It will depend on what duration you are prepping for. If you plan for three months and the situation last six then your plans were inadequate. If you plan for six months and the situation lasts twelve then you plans were inadequate. If the situation lasts more than one year and you have not planned for complete sustainability then your plans are again most likely inadequate. If you build your most precious pets into your plans as a possible food source your plan would be definitely inadequate! Remember you can only eat Fido once!
In desperate times people will do unimaginably desperate things. Plans have a way of never working out the way they are supposed to. In an extreme event history has shown us that people will eat dogs, cats, rats in fact anything they can get their hands on including each other!
We should all reconsider our plans and at the least prepare with an aim of being able to avoid these malevolent, loathsome traits of mankind.

Could not agree more.
I heard stories of such said events, sometimes the dog just knows and attacks said master.
Eat ur pets, rabbits, guinnea pigs, snakes, aquarium fish lol. Ud be surprised.
i have no problem eating a dog, i eat the coyotes i kill, good for jerky. However!!!
Keep your dogs. Stock up for them. Why? Security. Having a dog makes the difference between
Waking up safe and having Ur throat slit while u slept. S hasnt htf yet and i need dogs now with the bear problem i got
Yet alone the scabs who will kill u for what u have.
If its a morals and ethics thing then... Eat ur fallen enemy or atleast feed em to your dogs.

Tough questions? for who? They are not even multiple choice, didnt even need to crack a book. Gave more thought to what side of the toast to butter. Who wants to try some algerba, or some chemistry formulas, yea... chemistry there will be some tough questions then.
I know as long as we are being serious, here is a tough one, how many angels fit on the head of a pin?..and you must show your math in hexadecimal.
I am just yanking your chain, I know in reality you follow everyones hero... the late great Rodney King and who can forget his words..."cant we all just get along" 😀
Though if he read these posts he might have said "cant we all just get along..with our dogs"
Still not eating fido........no.....not going to do it.....guess I will die
