In the above scenario you would likely be long dead and gone before you even got around to even contemplating earting your pets.

You give up way too easy.

I never said how it played out. I never even said if all the plants were affected in that scenario.

What if it only affected 30% of the worlds food supply short term and another 20% long term?

In a biblical proportion ..... someone always survived the portion served no matter how large.

If there were a 50% short fall in the food supply..... finding a dog alive would be hard pressed.

I think most of you should just let your pets live out their days, shoot yourself in the head like Bear would at the first sign of impending disaster..... and just get it over with, your not ready to prep let alone survive....

Crier,
Just because there are others that have a different point of view, you don't need to get all salty like that.
Personally, I believe that if dogs are the only source of food left, mankind has probably gone the way of the dodo bird.
If it is too hard to hear something that is opposed to your own train of thought, then just let it be.
Everyone has the right to express opinions here...
Mine is that your scenario of being forced to eat your pets is rediculous.
If you don't like that opinion, well too bad.
I also have the opinion that if you actually think that you may have to face the choice of eat fido or die, then you have made serious errors in preps or skills or both.
Perhaps the reason that some have disagreed with you is that they (we) have thought out the scenarios and worked out alternate solutions.

Shaking my head with a gentle smile. I never said I would shoot myself in the head. I said given the scenario you postulated THAT would be the end game when the symptoms of radiation poisoning got too bad. You take liberties with peoples posts that aren't completely accurate. You have a lot of opinion and judgement but little fact. From what I have seen on here it is a way for you to showcase what you have. I haven't seen anything about what you have DONE or what your actual self sustaining preps are. Are you growing food? Do you preserve? Do you network with your neibours or do you stand alone? Tell us about you the man. I am not so much interested in your latest aquisition, how much fuel you can buy, how much you made this week in your gold investments. As I said in another post... we prepare to survive... but also to maintain that which separates us from the animals which is our humanity itself. Your last post is full of "what if's".... and your statement "Folks need to give their heads a shake after pulling it out of their holes and stop pretending they know it all after watching a few YouTube videos.". Perhaps you could enlighten us with a CV of your education and experience that makes you such an expert on everything.

Who's salty, certainly not I.

Opinions go both ways.

And I'll bet you an ounce of shiny gold I'm more prepared and trained up than you are..... 😉

Now

It's true that I chose giant breeds as part of my prep, but I like my dogs and have spent countless hours training and thousands of dollars feeding and caring for them. Do I want to eat them? No. Would I? With bells on.

Everything I do revolves around preparing.

ok enough of the gangup on thecrier.

I enjoy his posts. They pose questions and ideas to me (and assumingly everyone else who reads them). you dont have to agree with him (im assuming thecrier is a him), but you should read his posts and at the very least ponder what it is he is trying to say. In regards to the gold thread, he is stating his opinion on the value of gold, and giving insight on his experience. if you disagree with whats being said then the answer is simple. dont buy gold. IN regards to this thread, obviously planning to eat your mutts is not a very good prep, but at least it got people hinking about possible bad times ahead, and what they would try to do in those situations. The fuel thread has given me some good ideas as I am a fairly new prepper. Maybe some people dont like how he is speaking to everyone on these threads, but I dont find his comments offensive. Prepping and survivalism are not pretty. they are not sheltered, and they are not the pillow laden comfort bubble that we live in now. When shtf, you WILL do things you never thought you would. its not a matter of if, its a matter of WHAT and WHEN. If you dont like it, then deal with it, and move on. But if it comes down to it for whatever reason, you may look back on these "easy times" of sitting around reading message boards and think "damnit, you know what? im glad I had this discussion way back when with that thecrier guy."

just saying. now everyone get along or ill find you and eat your dogs!

See you all after.

I think Buggie has really hit the nail on the head! We should NOT plan to eat our dogs, rather we should plan to eat OTHER peoples dogs! Thanks for sorting that out for me. I was on the edge there and now it's all clear. 🙂

Yup, it is pointless to continue this discussion. If crier cannot accept the fact that others have found a way to not HAVE to eat their dogs, then too bad. Now, on to more intelligent and thought out threads.

It looks like we have degenerated back to the touching a few raw nerves again. This is an excellent forum to exchange ideas compare preps and plans and test other peoples reaction to them. We have different ideas and approaches. We may agree or disagree. We may even offer constructive criticism. That is how we learn, that is how we grow.

Buggie no one is ganging up on anyone. Crier likes to make provocative statements. Sometimes he cracks me right up. He has a unique sense of humour. Sometimes anyone, even Crier, can make an ill conceived comment. Some do not handle criticism well and lash out at everyone in response. We are all adults here. If I make a unintelligent statement I expect I would get an scathing response. I would deserve it.

Comments like "I think most of you should just let your pets live out their days, shoot yourself in the head like Bear would at the first sign of impending disaster..... and just get it over with, you're not ready to prep let alone survive...." are neither helpful or constructive! It is offensive to many of us. What on earth were you thinking Crier?
