Have any of you near the Fraser Valley of British Columbia used the services of the LDS cannery in Langley ? I was wondering if it was open to the public to purchase from ?
Any other recommendations as particularily good sources for bulk food around the Fraser Valley area that anyone wants to offer?
LDS is open to anybody. I would have purchased through them but I live on the island. Download an order form to get an idea of what you might like and make an appointment.
Anita's Organic is a bulk grain supplier in Chilliwack.
I've been a couple of times to the Langley LDS cannery. You have to set up an appointment time but they were very nice & friendly. Like Wookie mentioned look over the order form ahead of time so you've got an idea on what you want. They sometimes have a few #10 cans leftover from previous appointments but if not then they will show you how to fill & seal the cans. The first time I went I got just one can of some things like the fruit drink mix so I could see if the family liked it before buying a bunch of it.

I live in downtown Vancouver on my own (single female) and don't have a car... if I wanted to go to the LDS cannery, is it within walking distance of a bus stop (II'd have to take public transporation)- do you guys know if they deliver food for an additional fee?

I'm down to go and get some canning done, maybe we could coordinate our efforts?
If anyone else in the lower mainland is interested in this please post, we can set up a time and all go together, get some work done and can a ton of food.
I think it is close enough to the bus loop in the central part of town, you might want to give some thought to how much you can carry back with you and handle on the rapid transit system. I am a single mother with budget restraints , there is no way I am getting ton of food in any one purchase : )
Im interested in this. Have never been, but have heard a lot about it from fellow preppers. Here is their website http://providentliving.org/self-reliance/food-storage/home-storage-center-order-form?lang=eng and here is a list of products and prices in Canadian dollars: http://providentliving.org/bc/content/providentliving/content/content/english/self-reliance/food-storage/home-storage-center-order-form/pdf/home-storage-center-order-form-canada-english.pdf?lang=eng
Perhaps if we do a group buy than someone who is restricted to the bus system could get a delivery? Im sure something could be figured out. 🙂
I just received an email saying all but 12 are ending the self canning service and will provide only canned goods. I dont know if langley had a self canning sevice before, but it looks like they only sell pre-canned now

I just got the same email...the ONLY Canadian location that will continue to offer self canning is Lethbridge Alberta.
I didnt even know that the Langley LDS had long term storage items until reading this thread. Has any one bought things there before? I work quite close by there and would be interested in getting some things, can you just stop in and purchase items or do need to pre-order them?
i have been there before,it was a cool experience!!! i'm pretty sure one must make an appointment, as they dont have a storefront per say. but once your there you learn alot. They do have pre-canned items, but for the most part you have to do your own canning.
