Hello,
Very nice to be here.
Not sure where I will fit in.
Am a single, 56 year old female. Realizing I will not last long on my own so am hoping to find like minded people
to share ideas with, learn from and survive.
I am a flight attendant so I have some basic first aid skills, have read up on allopathic medicine for over 25 years and consider myself a nurturer, healer.
Am a hard worker but other than that have only camped once.
Have started on my BOB gear and almost have it finished. Just spent over 1,000 trying to get that ready.
My achilles heel is not having people around me to talk to in person about this or link up with.
Currently learning knots, plan on learning to use my slingshot and want to extend my knowledge of survival alternative first aid. Thats all I have to offer for now.
Any other like minded folks in my area?

Any chance you found a deal on the Biolite? I have been checking around but it seems the $130 from their corporate site is the only one I find. If you ordered from them, can you tell me how painful the shipping costs are to get them up here?

I will be happy to let you know when I get it.
You can only purchase the stove from the site
They are so back ordered that they wont be shipping out until Nov 28th.
Check back here and I will tell you the shipping costs and how well it works

Sounds like you have outfitted your bag quite well, and I am sure you researched it to ensure all the little things are in there as well. I must admit that my bugout bag, and my sons and my wife's were my favorite thing to pull together. Took years to amass it all, but when finally ready got a great Maxpedition bag, and she is loaded for any emergency...I sleep much better knowing they are at arms length either beside my bed, or stored in truck when required.

Welcome Sherry, hope to hear more from you as you get yourself up to speed.

Cheers

hello, hope things are okay with you. my name is Bryan and i am a single 50 year old. i live in the east kootenays. if i can be of any assistance feel free to call on me. i am a fixit.buildit, designit, type of guy with a lot of knowledge that is free to those who ask.prepping is a smart idea, if you think about it we are just doing what was expected of us not to long ago in the past.i wish i myself never got sucked in to the idea that everything was going to be okay and do not worry. now i am worried and not so ready as i could have been if i would have thought twice about the structure of society and its fragility.for me i want to be self reliant and not just ready to bug out when things go sour. i often wonder if people know where in the hell they are going to and what to expect when they get wherever they are going to.running from a problem is okay in a do or die situation but is never a solution. i rather meet a problem head on and deal with it now, not run away and come back when the bogey man is gone.well bye for now and remember you candoit!

I just figured out how to log back in here. I too am a woman on my own in Langley preparing to live more resiliently , planting orchards , making gardens , raising animals. Working on organizing and optimizing my situation for the long haul. I am really interested in permaculture as a means to help create better living in a manner harmonious to our environment but I do recognize the social situation with the economy, climate change concerns , earthquake and other things here make actively prepping a prudent thing to do . Security in all facets seems more important to me being a single female and I am a bit younger than you Sherrie, but I have raised my kids and I now work at making our home a haven for them if a crisis hits .
I agree alot with what Bryan said about a prepared lifetyle being what people did moreso a few decades back before they became dependant and vulnerable in todays society. Today we have more population and issues than ever which is why I am on this forum right now looking for 'community' .
