ok so i have being thinking about this topic a bit. does anyone out there have a trapline?? or does anyone know of someone that has a trapline? Im still looking into it on the net but im wondering if it would be worth it for a guy, or maybe two guys to get into trapping. im sure it not cheap to get going, you have to buy alot of traps and gear i would think, but maybe it might be worth some serious concideration. I mean if a guy had a trapline then he would need ro build a cabin on that trapline and work it, right and im going to venture a guess that trapping is still kinda lucritive, that would depend on where the trapline was of course.
Anyways, just a thought, something to look into, if anyone knows anything about this id be glad to listen to any info people may have.
You have to get a license and secure a trap line from one of the trappers.... retiring. I know we have them up here and each trapper has his own area. Plus you have to show you know what you are doing so the animal suffers as little as possible. I don't think they make that much money judging from the trappers I know and it is alot of work.
Ive been doing a bit of research into trapping in bc, not alot of info out there. But what i did find waa sthat it seems that the majority of the fur trade is actually fur farming! apparently mink is farmed, i did not know this. But im still looking into it, its something im intrested in as i enjoy the outdoors, but would definatley say that if i could i'd love to sit down with a trapper and get a good idea about the whole process.
Well, my one uncle in alberta had a trap line for around 40 plus years and my cousin up in the yukon has a trap line now, but it would the getting them to be willing to talk that would be the tricky part, I know that it took a good while for my cousin(who just turned 40) to wait a lot of years to be able to have someone retired in his area to be able to get his trapline.. Clearly sitting down would not be possable as he is in the yukon but perhaps chatting by email is possable, he is not a board member but if he says yes, I will PM you his email addresss.
As for my uncle, he is now 70 this year and has more knowledge when it comes to critters, traps and lines, but he is a old grizzly bear and I know he does not do email etc..

farmgal,
hey thanks, i would be grateful for the chance to ask your cousin some questions about trapping. yah, i can see how sitting down would be a little hard, but please let me know if he is willing to exchange emails. Sounds like i may have a few years to wait( im 29) but good things come to those who wait!!! or so i have been told.
Thanks for the info !!!
