That’s because they know that with all the “snowflakes” out there, if they were upfront and told the honest truth, that the next shortage in the stores would be ropes as the suicide rates and mental health crises would go through the roof

Reality sucks...

Reality can indeed bite. Yes the snowflakes would freak out and truth be told and I know it’s not very nice of me but I may even give away , well not give away but loan out some rope If it helped cull the heard.

Seriously, I prefer sound intel, good, bad or ugly. At least I know what I have to work with. I like to think of a captain on a ship telling passengers, the boats got one hour in her and this is what we can do. Some will listen and get organized and work together and some will panic or go comatose. Use the ships gun locker contents for troublesome and until everyone else is safe forget comatose ones.

I like the truth and working with it. Pass out the free rope for the others.

My Mom.. I founds this new channel 24/7 covid news.. all these experts and they explain and talk about everything..
Me.. ok.. so do you feel better or does it scare you?
My Mom: scares me but I also like listening to them talk about it.
Me OK.. I understand.. knowledge feels like power.. I get it
My Mom.. talks about the experts for like an hour, covers all these things she liked they talked about ..
Ok
Ok.
Me.. now mom I just want you to remember one thing ok.. The whole point of your new channel is to scare the gen pop into following all the new rules and giving a reason for all the Bleep that is about to come raining down the next 5 year..
My Mom :silence
Still Silence..
then in a quiet voice.. ok.. I get it..

Sigh.. wow.. a 24 hour nothing but Covid channel.. fg

I feel so bad for seniors. My mother loves her detective or murder mysteries and was going nuts listening to the cable news. My dad has dementia so the poor soul has a tough go of it, so sister recommends a channel on crime mysteries. Low And behold, I get a call from mom telling me she is hearing “noises” outside the house. They do live in the country and seldom see anyone walk by their home so the squirrels get bigger and bigger 😀 So after her telling me she wanted a gun and her sleeping with a knife, we told them, go watch a nature channel or some antique show. 😀

The other thing is anyone who is sick or old is worried about going into the hospital and never seeing a loved one due to panic over visitors etc. so I really feel bad for seniors and everyone who is sick and worried about going into the hospitals these days. Hell of an unnecessary mess

I've seen the 24 hour Covid Channel, I can't be bothered with it. As far as I'm concerned it's all media type and scare tactics. That being said my parents watch news excessively and as a result take all this Covid stuff very serious.

They know I don't buy into all the fear mongering, but I do assure them that as long as Canada keeps its borders closed we'll be o.k. as we've fared pretty well compared to most countries.

Although I'm not overly concerned about this virus, I have kept family supplied with Medical Quality masks and am working on building both my and their supply of N95/KN95 masks just in case. I may not buy into all this Covid fear mongering or take it overly serious but the prepper inside of me demands that I always prepare for the worst, just in case.

Well, not that is a news flash for many but here in Ontario, Premier Doug Ford just announced they are getting ready for second wave in the fall. No snit Sherlock!

Yet and in typical denial mode government think, the idiots are talking about full time school classes. I fully understand all the issues of homeschooling, mothers being hit the worse, job demands etc etc etc. we got that. But to sit there and say we are wanting full in school classes and then out of the other side of the mouth admit to a likely second wave ( at least glad they let that slip out)

So what’s the point Doug? Open things back up, give false hope to parents and businesses and then what, shut it all back down 2,3 or maybe four weeks latter? Hell of a plan, but this is why we are in the mess we are. Governments and corporations spent gobs of money To hire professionals to advise them on what the threats and risks are and assess what’s needed to combat the very clear likelihood of these things occurring and the remedies and then refuse to action the requested and paid for recommendations. Simpler stellar work there boys and girls, just brilliant!

So assuming dear leader is correct on second wave this fall and I firmly believe he is, let it be a real heads up on what we can try and envision or to occur. Second and third waves in theory carry a higher body count. So if we had supply disruptions this spring and even now, think far worse. The BS about being better prepared is Hs, if you asked the question do you have enough PPE for all medical or other public or private service personnel seeing the public right now and when we say enough, we mean by that, 4,5,6 changes of masks per eight hour shift, I bet the only noise heard would be camera clicks and perhaps some gas escaping from the politician.

So during the normal flu season we will see spike in covid symptoms and cases and all during wet cool weather with snow. Should be a real barrel full of monkeys time in any lines out in front of Costco, Wally World, pharmacies..... People will be in a great mood wet and freezing and thinking of when they finally get inside and find the shelves bare or limited to one can of peas.

Mentioned it in the spring, but make sure ones generator or batteries ........are in good shape becuase covid will hit hydro workers as much as anyone else and those lines won’t be repaired as fast when the snow and wind hit this winter. They were already restricted to one person per service truck so that cut in half the number of truck available to help other areas. Because it occurred this spring, the impact wasn’t felt but this winter?

Now, here’s an even more fun point to ponder or prep for. Third wave!! Maybe in the spring to early summer. Want a garden in the early spring, better have seeds next week...to plant.

So to recap. Right now we are still fiddling with #1, then wave 2 hits maybe mid fall and then wave #3 late spring to early summer. I wonder what things will look like and how wonderfully civil people will be? I think it’s something like 35% of people In the US are behind in home payments and I suspect we are somewhat similar. By summer of 21 what will it be? That company that paid people to work from home will be in what financial situation come January?

I am not painting doom and gloom, aux contraire, what I ponder above isn’t even a minuscule fraction of what a second and third wave will mean. Not a grain of sand on a beach worth.

Just sit back, look around you and your largest circle and see how folks are doing financially and mentally, look at neighbor's, fear in some retail workers faces, panic in the eyes of some health care workers, look at the rings around their eyes.... now try and imagine another year of worse conditions, perhaps far worse!

All I can say is it’s all an educated guess at this stage, with some knowing more and some really just trying to guess but without any background training or information to help them, but what I have learnt over the years is to listen to the gut and avoid trying to play it down or sugar coat things because your only fooling yourself. I don’t mean stop striving or having a can do attitude because those are absolutely essential. what must be avoided at all costs is sugar coating things and believing the magical disaster fairy or government department will save you. not disparaging government folks here becuase I know many truly great ones, just that the blob has problems of it’s own and can’t handle things efficiently on a good day, let alone during a crisis.

I would expect some form of food .. rationing and enactment of emergency measures act this fall/ winter. Certainly tighter inter provincial or even regional travel restrictions, so think long and very hard on where one wishes to be this fall... Don’t forget the stool pigeons governments of all levels will use to rat out their neighbors!

If one is traveling around, a burner phone or no phone at all is something to consider. This isn’t intended to assist those breaking laws, just to save on cell air time and battery use and Reduce ones carbon footprint, after all we must do our part and are all in this together :geek:

This isn’t over by a long shot

Hong Kong is reporting a third wave of Corona Virus hitting now. Some Southern U.S. States are considering going back into lockdown as second wave is hitting hard.

So for many this is far from over, but, as I've said before, as long as Canada keeps its borders closed. No big deal. Our numbers have been pretty mild compared to most of the world. If the borders stay closed, our numbers will stay low and any second or third wave will be minimal.

Now, if our Government caves to U.S. pressure and re-opens the borders well then all bets are off and our numbers will jump.

SETI, States are not getting hit with actual second wave, they are Like us still oN the first wave. Here’s an article from Israel and what’s interesting is that Quebec fiddled with school opening at the beginning of June and shut it done when cases started to increase a week or two later and they hardly even had anyone in the class!

https://www.wsj.com/articles/israelis-fear-schools-reopened-too-soon-as-covid-19-cases-climb-11594760001

Just listened to CBC and Ontario is apparently thinking of only having fifteen kids to a class and will need something like another 250 million to hire more teachers. Hope between today and September 1st they can purchase, wire up and fill with desks all the temporary trailers they will need. Maybe I am wrong but halving the class size will need a ton of extra space and schools are already full. School boards are only submitting plan in first week of august 😆 😆 😆 good luck getting fully ready in three weeks IFFFFFF the plan is even approved that day. I think they have no plan or intent to open and are just running out the clock and will all pretend to look shocked when suddenly something new happens. Oh schucks, gosh golly gee. Pretty sure they know but once more are afraid to admit the future isn’t to rosy. Then people would ask about vital things like rent money, food.... delay, delay and always show being surprised 😯

I know pots legal now but holy smokes they are on some strong stuff. Then poof, after a few weeks they will say,” we tried” back Home to the computer you go Kids, mom and dad at work will stay home and teach you a full years work. 😆 😆 😆 and you will all pass.

As to keeping border shut, I hope so, but remember, they are still allowing people to drive and fly in from the US or around the world.

It’s all a farce and we simply need to do what we can to be ready, little else one can do. What the economic toll will look like will be a true disaster.

What phase are you in? Different parts of the country have different things happening? are you in the east coast bubble? Are you in the lockdown.. you can't fly in north!

The area I live just moved into phase 3 in my province.. they are opening it back up.. with mask's on public transport and in all public and private business places.. they want the workers back so they are pushing to open schools.. (we will see on that one.. I have spoken to everyone single person I know with children and as harsh as this sounds.. those that have no choice but to work, are yes.. send them back.. we have to pay the bills and every single family that can find a way or has enough money to do so is like.. NO WAY.. they are online learning, homeschooling.. NOT going back) in a way this makes my heart hurt a bit.. This is not about what is best for the kiddo's.. this is about where you fall in the social economics.. and those effects and choices are going to be felt for many years to come.

Interesting per my own social feedback (asking the question) and it making up with 4 different pole results shared betweeen a new station, and two newspapers with very different view points.. the bottom line 80 to 87 percent of everyone talked to.. said.. that's nice.. you can open if you want.. WE ARE NOT GOING BACK.. we are not shopping, we are not going to the movies, we are not going to the pool or the gym or x or y..

That is a massive amount.. now in part I honestly think its a combo of things and I am not sure that covid itself is the driver.. not the fear of catching it.. don't get me wrong.. I know most peaple do not want to catch it.. but when I dug down and asked folks.. its the fact they are not sure about jobs.. lost income.. worried about coming job loss.. worried about coming costs, and so the money they do have.. its not about spending.. its about keeping back some rainy day money.. its about getting a few things ahead..

They have their eye firmed on what is happening in regards to the economy and it has them scared and then some! combine Covid and the fear of what is coming.. and they are hunkering down and then some..

So so not over!

Opening everything and keeping schools closed makes ZERO sense. Part time reopening makes marginally more sense.

In AB, there’s still not sure what it will be like, but childcare centres are opened now at full capacity. That makes sense. In any town, you see kids at playgrounds or riding bikes together. Throughout the pandemic, you would see a couple school-aged kids at the grocery store on a Tuesday morning, exposed to other customers (and vice versa) because they’re not in class and single mom on CERB needs grocery.

Kids are not learning half the curriculum they would normally and they can’t properly develop socially.

Shy of a steep infection rate occurring, there is really just one answer.

While I do see the points you are making, the home schooling family's are just trucking along and I am amazed at how many locally are taking online summer school as well..

In some cases, I have friends littles ones and within my own family that are doing amazing.. example, grade 3 but not working and doing grade 5.. or my own neice, in grade 8 and burning though her 2 weeks worth of week in a day or two and then getting extra, and who is now working in 10 or higher in some and is also taking a collage course because she can and has time for it..

While there are some that are struggling.. there are also others who are being allowed to move.. not being held back by the system .. its been very interesting to see and hear how so many are doing and what.. Locally we have tens thousands of students that are now actively part of a grass roots movement in regards to gardening and growing their own food etc.

FG, that’s awesome input on kids not being held back and I hope they are allowed to jump the cue and Not held back by our socialist we are the world types. If they are held back, that will likely discourage many but hopefully the parents can keep them moving and then they will kill university’s. My kids are punching way above their age belt in business and it’s because we let them rip with studies and introduced them to logical thinking, to others who are succeeding in their fields, speaking in front of adults, not allowing mindless TV programs.. we played and worked hard and Surprise surprise, to be wary of who you trust, having top security folks over to the house certainly helped back up dads warnings. I watch them now and it’s a beautiful thing to see and guessing the children in this group Or who think like us will rock life as well.

Eastern Ontario region and we just went phase 3. As to schools, amongst other things, there certainly is a social or economical Factor. As we try and “prep” for things, these issues will likely affect us in many ways. Jealousy from neighbors or coworkers, people who wonder down the lane to read a meter, amazon deliveries looking at us with envy or avarice for what we have or what they guess at. I have seen the wondering eyes from a few and some compliments bit I am always mindful of those compliments, biting me if they remember that “place back in the bush” if they get desperate.

Agree 100% about people being afraid to spend precious funds and there is the why risk a movie factor as well. I know I won’t be going to an indoor restaurant or movie theater and I enjoy both.

I hadn’t heard anyone ever talk about office, shopping mall, restaurant or movie theatre air!
Our buildings move and recycle air both in the summer and winter, Nagol on this board or others can give a more detailed review on the subject but the little I know tells me this can be a real fun issue. People sneezing, coughing away in the cubicle with no mask on can pose a threat to those in adjoins space or forty feet away. Due to energy saving efforts treated air is precious and not just exhausted freely.

The other issue I never hear anything about is asymptomatic folks. With lockdowns, these people are walking around unaware they have covid And will be returning to work places and unbeknownst to others spreading it. Not an infectious disease expert By ant stretch but could these folks be the Trojan horse for the actual second wave? Happy, healthy, young.. people and workers as carriers.

And thinking ahead in a post covid infection or hysteria world, look well to what this is bringing in financial pain! I am thinking the economic impact will be larger then little old Covid-19

I'm currently located in Manitoba. Ten days or so ago we were down to a Single active case in the entire province, now in less then two weeks we've jumped up to 74 active cases. A first wave that won't die? A second wave? Call it what you want. The fun isn't over yet.

The Canada/U.S. Border will be closed for another 3 or 4 weeks, considering the state of things in the U.S. "IF" they opt to re-open the border then we're really in for an interesting time the next few months.

Google apparently told itS workers they are working from home until July 2021.

Now there’s an HONEST appraisal ( my ever so humble opinion)

Our ontario premier still hasn’t submitted a plan to open schools first week of September, still babbling that class sizes will be cut to fifteen students or something on those lines... just how does a smart person think they can get a full student population into school when class sizes are cut in Already congested school's to half the class size? Then there’s, in theory double the teachers needed! Lots of people are either on serious meds or just faking it, in the hope people swallow the “surprise” in five weeks from now. Oh geeze whiz, due to unprecedented times, we couldn’t use our brains for simple logistics!

I frankly don’t care and just find it one more confirmation that they are lost in space on this voyage, but here’s the thing. These are supposed to be the leaders or experts who will guide us through this event. These are the people who will tell you a vaccine is safe, no need to stock up..... yes sir, we can trust them with our very lives. I think more and more are not swallowing the LSD and are silently getting ready for shortages and all that comes with it. Imagine the poor folks in US cities these days. Feel bad for the people who couldn’t escape and are tied down to jobs. We may look like them next summer!

One of the kids was over and they are as ready as can be in an apartment in a small city. All their grab and go bags are ready, food cash, healthy... but I said, you know what “I” am going to need to get ready for? Despite all my preps and knowing what I know, I said to myself, I need to start really making peace or getting mentally prepared for what may befall us in the next year or for many more years to come. Not just what I know can and will likely happen but actually focus the mind for the next stage. I think for the first time in my life, I have what I consider a really good and long heads up on something.

A sort of OK, we have what we have, now let’s get the head calm, pay close attention to what we do so we don’t injure ourselves, check in more often with close family members, do some reaching out to friends and just getting the pulse of things ..

Or a mental attitude of the forts ready, now we wait for the fun to start and to hold our own. No different then I or many people have experienced In a rough spell but it still hit me as something I needed to adjust my mind to.

Part of the prep for me will be making sure I actually have some fun in August, go for a few runs on ATV, a few parties on the farm with family, make things seem normal, celebrate what we have done and just try and relax and strengthen the mind.

Mental Health is KEY.. The head affects all parts of Attitude .. and physical health.. Planning and Co-ordination are part of the critical phases in making sound decisions.. not forgetting commonsense as an individual. There is no better time to begin a survival process!

“The mind is all” is a common term in some philosophies.
The ability to focus has saved my bacon a number of times in my career but I am finding this time very different. The lead up was always there and when things started to fall apart, I was mentally... ready And not shocked or surprised in the least on any of what has and is occurring. What’s interesting is now being in an early stage of things, knowing that one was correct and now thinking about what the next phases could look like.

IFFFFFF, correct, the next year will be far different then the present and that my friends is not pretty. That’s “IFFF” Things progress as indicators do indeed indicate. So I am now trying to set the mind to next likely phase and even a bit after that. Due to health and need for meds,I am somewhat limited to pondering one year at a time but still, as a proactive person, I continue to look ahead.

So yes squizzy, mental health is indeed Key. And everyone would be well advised to always keep that in mind. Be it out shopping, gardening, hunting, with loved ones beside you, while sleeping or laying awake.

For those not familiar with meditation, i would highly recommend one snag some literature on it and gently start The art. As the mind is all, it’s one heck of a friendly and powerful tool to have
