I am starting to see and hear from friend with a weary look on their faces that.. its Aug and there is no let up in sight.. that they expect the winter to be hard. Just a few are starting to say in a slow way.. years.. this will be years.. but many others, full out.. no, nope.. not real..
As for us.. Its time to sit back down with our big print out sheets and go over everything again.. we are doing it quarterly and reviewing and revamping. Mentally, my new driveway alarms have been a wonderful thing.. they keep us laughing and busy on top of all the rest we are doing..

FG mentioned the “nope...” crowd. Have a friend like that, thankfully he is the only one 😆 ah it will pass, life goes on... I say yes life will indeed go on Tom, just like it did as people boarded the trains in Germany.... amazing how people try and rationalize things that are not going well. A solid determined foot forward approach IS essential but one cannot deny reality because it’s an unpleasant thought and goes against what one hopes for.
“IFFFFFF” it gets worse again, There’s going to be a great many people losing their minds this winter and come next summer, I would expect what we have seen in the US to be at least ten times worse for them and likely us as well. Seriously, the economic crash or impact will be insane and we need to remember that our lifestyles are not like the 30’s depression, while horrible, most people lived in the countryside. Not today. Can one imagine soup kitchens for millions! Look at the effect of last winters rail strike. Wonder what a few garbage, power, refinery ( no grocery deliveries due to absence of gas) grocery store, meat or produce workers.... not good on day three! One good thing if one can call it that, is all the people who think we will be fine because hey we are peaceful Canadians will in my opinion get the chance to see how that works out in all the large cities! Maybe I will be wrong.
I am sure many have seen reports on curfews in Australia and we know of inter provincial monitoring etc Going on here in Canada , but here’s an article on NYC that can be very relevant to ones plans here in Canada.
These types of localized travel restrictions are along with others, well established measures To control activity etc. Can and will tighter and tighter measures or areas be implemented in the future, I would say a definite yes.
Cities are not all that hard to cordon off, a few cement barricades here and there will direct vehicular traffic to controlled check points, curfews can be used, the nanny states use of neighborhood snitches will be deployed to snag those trying to walk where they shouldn’t. Cell phone tracking ( do you really want that covid app? 😆 😆 ) or simple monitoring of cell phone tower traffic could also be used. Not revealing anything here that isn’t Already common knowledge to anyone who reads a bit. As per the movies, it’s why bin laden went completely dark. Even a burner phone when used will transmit location and if there’s a curfew and a phone is moving, then one we have a violation and two it’s Trajectory or location is known. ( stand alone And old style non group sharing GPS units don’t transmit signals, however some garmin Combo radio and GPS units do transmit) imagine what can be done today by a bad guy using stuff at local electronics store or off the net. When things turn ugly, that smart criminals skillset really gets put to use.
So being where you or loved ones want to be can be a fun event this fall.... look very well to the news for hints on increased cases ( significant ones), messages about school closures any tightening of public transit regulations... in short, one will need to look at things from The angle of an investigator and try and piece together the signs as best as one can. Don’t let emotions like hope cloud decisions, but look to distant and recent examples on what one may expect to occur. Remember the beginning of the Berlin Wall? Oh what’s that activity going on, why the bulldozers and weak barbed wire..? Smart ones grabbed their bags and ran, the others “hoped” and watched the wall be built until it was to late. Which one would you like to be?
Of course if your already at a good location then that removes some of the concerns but it could still raise them for loved ones wishing to join you or you get to them. When law and order break down, criminals or others like the Nazis, Russian and other communist or socialist thugs creep out from sewers and they do have the smarts, networks, sadly some contacts with corrupt members of the police, money and technology. So good people will be fighting on a few fronts.
One thing that also worries me is the scary trend one sees occurring in the US. Local and state governments completely turning a blind eye to antifa type thugs and criminals yet sending the law after people who defend their home or business. Vagrants allowed to camp in parks behind your home, in parks... This is very troubling and because non of what I say is political, it does cause concern up here. We see somewhat the same thing with crime in our cities with riots, drug dealing, cigarette smuggling...yet going after law abiding citizens with hunting rifles. Again not political and I am most certainly not wanting to raise peoples neck hair about recent Gun laws. It’s simply something to be aware of when trying to predict how people and governments will react during a crisis. In a crisis, things turn very real, very fast and is no longer some academic debate. Again, non political and don’t think a gun debate Or critique of any political party is wise on public type forum with many types of eyes monitoring.
This site is about trying to be prepared for disasters and being proactive and understanding the various threats that one may encounter. That’s it and that’s all. Understanding what one will face under various threats is what we are about ( me anyways), I have spent the better part of my latter professional career dealing with ugly and sometimes very ugly realities and have no time for those who wish to deny reality. I hope for the best but plan for life’s realities and so far it’s worked out to be true and to my advantage. Hope I am wrong this time

Well it looks like people are getting real serious now, I noticed it a week maybe two ago out in the rural areas, people are now wearing masks in much greater numbers. The city always had as a percentage more people wearing masks but now even in my rural area its the exception now to see someone without one while shopping. It looks like the USA has been good for something after all, a example of what not to do. I have to say I love this mask wearing and social distancing. Hell I want more social distancing. So many people play no important role in my life that I am happy to keep my distance from them and not engage in small talk with them. I dont know what I am going to do when this is over?

I’ve noticed it in my neck of rural AB as well. “IT” being more people wearing mask AND winter coming fast!” Holy, it was just 6C this AM.
Have noticed more masks in our area as well. Of interest though, while at the farmers market, have noticed alot of people who work in the local hospital and whatnot are not wearing masks while out and about. On the whole though, even though it can be quite busy, people are generally observing the social distancing and not crowding the tables and waiting their turn for the most part. Quite a few are wearing them hanging from one ear and then come up to a table putting them on. We are not inside a building at this time, we are outside under tents on a blocked off street.
On Sunday morning here, it was 3C. Can feel the difference in the weather here, this week is supposed to be cooler, but next week have noticed that the temps are supposed to be in the high 20's again.
Take or leave like what one hears but I find the below numbers reasonable/ highly probable. I think I once guessed third week in September for good indication where we are headed. Some schools care only getting started September 14 range so a bit slower start But I think my original timing will still be pretty good
