I've done some dehydrating of fruits, veggies & herbs now. But I haven't dehydrated a fully cooked meal. I would like to try it because then you'd have an instant meal mix. Has anyone done this?
Do you mean dehydrate a stew or a pasta dish and dehydrate it?? That sounds interesting..
If you google "dehydrated meals in a jar" you will get lots of hits. Most of these are not fully cooked however...they are dehydrated vegetables, herbs, grains etc put together to make a quick meal.

Yes, one of my books says that it's very good to dehydrate a fully cooked meal ie casserole, etc. It's been on my must do list for a long time, but to get me motivated to actually do it, I thought I'd ask others for input.
That way you would have a ready made mix, just reconstitue & heat. Wouldn't that be great?
I have dehydrated chili, it reconstitutes well and tastes the same
I like the idea of reconstituting chili, especially if we could leave the gas dehydrated.. 🙂
I do my own backpacking meals. Most reconstitute fine like chili's with ground beef or pulled beef/ pork meals. The only thing that I don't do is anything with meat chunks, like stews. Even cut small the chunks of meat take forever to reconstitute, or if ever. Sausage works good, though fatty.
All meals were fully cooked first then dehydrated on greased fruit leather trays. Be sure to measure your meal before you dehydrate so when you reconstitute you know how much water to add. I just write it on the ziplock baggie. Oh and add the dried meal to your measuring cup before you add the water. You don't want to make spaghetti soup instead of sauce!
