...Basically u screwed with less than 10 capable watchers long term. 5 sleep; 3 on guard and two plus the older kids working their butts off to grow/ gather food. Gathering wouldn't be safe. Firewood/ cleaning/ making defenses.
Sounds like you're preparing for War... It would take longer to deal with 10 people than just 2 or 3, but do you really think that it's required to go tactical at the onset? People aren't as organized as one might think.
The masses may become desperate in time, but survival in an urban area likely depends on being unnoticed rather than any show of force. If you're rural, three on guard is a bit of an overkill; don't you think? At least that's my take on it.
None you improvise, one (or more) is luxury.
What the video series Wayne. I have open line of sight in two directions so better than most. But the right and back is woods. Everyone here hunts and nobody has extra water at home. Some are ready by pioneer canning and some have nothing. How long would anyone let a child cry before taking from somebody else? Like I said it's a minute chance but I'd say most here have some worry of TEOTWAWKI in their lifetime and certainly their kids or grandkids lifetime. They say EMP Would take out 99% of folks in a year. Doubtful but I can't feed everyone for a year. Hopefully just having a system in place would deter would be thieves but one family wouldn't deter crap. I'm not knowledgeable in arms or tactics but I know a kid could get the drop on us easy as it stands. We just lost 22 chickens to something in the back yard...The main point is running and maintaining a homestead by urself. Ppl want a place to go. I SHTF or TEOTWAWKI but very few are putting the time in to enlarge/ maintain systems. This alone justifies 10ppl and 18 was normal for a homestead in the pioneer ways. Everything we do here is very much like the old days
Big families here. Their born hunters and organized to kill moose every year without fail from 300- 1000 yards with 300mag. What's the disadvantage in having buddies to hunt/ garden/ give you a hand shtf/ Camp and have fun with? The best deterrent is numbers in all crime. That's why immigrants all move to the same place including snow birds. Safety
