underwater is safer than land
Yes I do pre-made meals but I prefer to use mylar bags and oxygen absorbers rather than the mason jars because they take up far less space. I customize recipes to my taste using my own dehydrated vegatables and/or fruits and sometimes combine these with freeze dried meats. I try to use ingredients that have a fairly long shelf life and things that don't interact with each other. If using things like yeast and flour I would pack these in separate zip locks (not sealed) and fold over the closure and place these in the mylar. I don't seal the zip locks to ensure that when you vacuum seal them all the air is sucked out of the separate pkgs as well. Plus if using powders it prevents them from being sucked into the machine and potentially harming your foodsaver (or what ever machine you use).
