Has anyone been personally affected by the trigger recall for some of the Remington 700 Rifles? Did you have to send the rifle to a certified Remington Service Tech, or was it repaired by a gunsmith of your choice? If so, how long did it take to get it back?

A friend of mine has one. We put the serial into the recall webpage and got confirmation and was asked to provide name address and phone and email and then was told he will receive pre-paid shipping tags , boxes and instructions.
Thanks for posting

prom,

Did they give your friend any time frame for it to come back?

This is all they said so far:

"Remington will send you pre-paid shipping tags, boxes and written instructions. Remington will cover all related shipping, inspection, and repair charges to your rifle. Please do not return your rifle to Remington before receiving the shipping tags, as the shipping tags will be marked to expedite delivery of your rifle to the specific Remington facility dedicated to this recall program."

I forgot to mention that they offered a code for 40 % discount on a couple of their websites to compensate for his trouble.

I'll keep you posted

Thanks for the info prom. Sounds like they are really trying to make this issue vanish, or at least less painful for the Rem 700 owners.

Hi all,

I have been in touch with Remington and this is the most current news.

For us up here in Canada we must contact Gravel in Quebec to handle this return issue.

After talking with the Gravel rep their recall program is an F......ing joke.

To begin with the initial contact was 2 months ago. At that time Gravel indicated that they would not be ready to even start this recall program until after they had rented/bought more space and hired additional gunsmiths. They would then let me know when the paperwork had been setup for me to request so that I could get on the waiting list to be sent the shipping materials to return my firearms. They concluded by saying that they hoped to have everything ready to go by October this year but this was only a very faint hope and was not to be considered as a definite timeline. This has not changed as of last week.

I called Remington back and found out that for those of us outside the U.S. the entire extent of the "FIX" was that the entire trigger assembly would be replaced. NO CLEANING or any other work would be done to the firearm.

Normally for a simple trigger replacement it takes no longer than 15-20 minutes even for an unskilled individual. While I do not advise or recommend anyone do this job themselves, if Remington was to supply we owners trigger assemblies if our firearms were affected the program would be carried out in a far more expedient manner than waiting for a Quebec company that is known for being unresponsive and lacking in credibility as far as meeting time targets goes.

Sorry if I'm ranting but this situation has pissed me off and neither Remington nor their so called Canadian service representative have inspired any confidence that they can meet any realistic timeframe for handling this recall.

At this point in time I have trigger locking my Remington firearms that are affected by this recall and locked them in my safe, not to be used until Remington smartens up.

On the up side it does give me a need to have a new firearm for moose season this fall and after this b.s. it won't be a Remington.

I got tired of waiting for a response, from Remington regarding turn around time, so I took Rusty Wood Trading Co. up on their offer to swap out my trigger for a Rifle Basix, or Timney for $245.00, installed and adjusted, since I wanted a custom trigger anyway I wasn't going to wait for Remington to get around to fixing mine. I told Peter, at RWTC, to take his time, as I wasn't in a huge hurry, but he still had it back in my hands the next morning. He put in the Rifle Basix with a 2.5 lb pull. Can you say Glass Breaking Crisp? I opted for the RB trigger so my chubby trigger finger could sit flat on the wide trigger paddle. I let a friend, known for being ultra fussy about trigger pull, try it, expecting the "But it's not a Timney or Jewel', and he was impressed. With millions of their guns sold, I can't see Remington keeping up with the recall, but I do appreciate them making owners aware of the possible problem, quickly.

I filled out the website last Monday and got the same response that they would send me a box with a mailing address on it. No box yet. I may also buy a trigger... I only have an entry-level model 700 so I did not plan on sinking a lot of money into it. Frustrating.
