Let us do a hypothetical for a moment.

Canada is vastly outgunned and its citizens cant protect themselves with long guns and pea shooters.

What we do have is a society where 4-7% of the population IMO are prepared and would even have the wits about them to actually plan a defense or attack. And that is all that is needed for dirty warfare. I would not play nice in a situation like that. Just look at the retaliation by Afghanistan against US bases. Those are the things that change public opinion in the attackers country. Its all about politics and propaganda.

Choking off supply lines like the Russians did to Germany in the winter works well too.

Canada would get stomped in a head to head shoot it out type scenario. But I do believe we could take on many attackers since we have the best defense and that is WINTER!

The United States has ALWAYS had plans in place to invade Canada..... and virtually every other country in the world. In fact we have a plan to invade the US that was developed in the same timeframe as the US plan to invade us. It is the job of every military to plan to attack AND defend against every scenario. These plans are constantly updated as time and capabilities change. This is NOT something new. I do agree with gravlore. Any popular response would be VERY difficult for an agressor to contain. We look like them, talk like them, act like them and share much of the same culture and knowledge. Look at the problems they are having in Afghanistan with Blue on Blue incidents... and the HUGE difference between people. Here it would be an impossible nightmare. They may take the ground... but... would never take the population.

Perhaps it would not be so much of an invasion more a neighbor stepping in to quell the riots of an incensed population. All we need is a provocative video on YouTube and there could be rioting in all major Canadian cities. An anti religious video wouldn't stir up much discontent here but what if a provocative video called "The Innocence of Hockey Fans" was released? Deriding Don Cherry, that should do it. Stay tuned.

I guess since we have been at war once it could happen again. Thanks for the comments. I found the whole idea shocking.

I must be the person that you can sell a lovely golden bridge too 🙂

In the late 50's early 60's the US was going to tariff all products coming in from Canada, Canada threatened to turn off all resources to the US (oil, hydro, N. gas and water). The US went on yellow alert, and started amassing on the Canadian border. The main thing that stopped from invading Canada was….Russia, they threatened to start the missiles flying if the US invaded Canada. 😈

It will never happen.

Do I think the US would consider it if they could get away with it? Yes. Because in the end the US is all about the US and what benefits the US. On the international stage however it would NEVER be tolerated. And the US knows this.

You're thinking old style here. The USA (or any other country for that matter) doesn't have to "invade" us. Our government has spent the last 30 years signing our sovereignty away with unilateral "free trade" agreements. Now we are obligated by international law to give them whatever they want or risk being in violation of international treaty laws. Also, since the end of last year, Harper signed an agreement with the USA allowing them to occupy our territory with US soldiers if the USA ever felt it necessary in respect to the security of the North American continent.
It's the way of the NWO. National borders and rights will become subordinate to international law. The only way out is to fight globalization everywhere you see it.

Personally, I'm far more concerned about the UN bringing in their 'peacekeeping forces' which would consist of Russian and Chinese troops in North America.

I seriously doubt the US would allow any foreign troops into North America regardless of who's banner or mandate they are under. No matter how far down they go they still have a nuclear capability that I believe they would use as a last resort. Also it was attributed to a Japanese General during WW 2 .. Yamamoto..."You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."...

I agree with JAB 100%. So if we have nothing to worry about why does our government insist on enormous military spending ranking about 13th in the world? That's $560 per capita!. Now we are changing the retirement age from 65 to 67 and at the same time buying new jets for the air force that cost more the than the money saved delaying the retirement age. Frankly it does not make sense.

I agree with you on the military spending. That though has to take into account our involvement in Afghanistan. I will wait to see what it will be once we are out of there. Also what has been done re equipment upgrades and aquisition? We need ships that are arctic capable for the navy and also more littoral capable vessels. A few working subs would be nice...as opposed to the money pit Oberon Class that we got from Britian. Now there is talk of mothballing them and going nuclear. What we need is a clear Defence position and the equipment to make it possible.

I saw those submarines in Halifax the year they sailed... er... were dragged over. The USS Arizona is in vastly better condition. I know that submarines are supposed to sink... but its supposed to be a controlled descent! 😆

IN regards to the topic at hand... I dont think it would ever come to a war. In my minds eye I would envision something more like the annexation of austria by Nazi Germany. As was already stated, we are too similar, our economies are too closely knit, and 90% of anything the US would want is within a 4 hour drive of any border crossing. They dont need to take the land... just the important bits. I dont believe that an all our turf war would ensue mainly because Canada is everyones little buddy. We supply raw resources to the other world super powers. The US would have to annex us peacefully, or simply keep doing what they are doing, and legistlate the crap out of us.

See you all after.
