New to the forum but not so new to the prep world.

I laid away:

- two new 5-gallon gas cans filled with stabilized gas for the generator.

- one pint of Crown Royal (it was given to me, I don't drink it but I think I'll hang on to it)

- a 5-pack of lighters

- $300.00 worth of silver coins (I save silver to pay my property tax when the SHTF)

Downloaded this for free...don't know how long it will be available for free....if you don't have a Kindle do what I did and download their free PC version so you can take advantage http://www.amazon.ca/Bug-Out-Bag-B-O-B-ebook/dp/B00AQ4UW6W/ref=sr_1_2?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1363789547&sr=1-2

I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband

A local grocery store is closing so everything was 50% off yesterday. While everyone was running with 5lb bags of potatoes and bags of cheezies, I stocked up on:

Tylenol, 6 bottles
Band-aids, 3 kinds, 8 boxes
Ozonol ointment
Antibiotic burn spray
Pepto Bismol
Tooth brushes
Bar soap
Cinnamon
18" x 328' roll of aluminum foil
Cough drops
Cough medicine

The first four items were perfect timing as we are outfitting a couple of First-Aid kits.

This week I prepared a personalized First Aid kit for my youngest and purchased a new kit for my vehicle.

I read Lucifer's Hammer.

Picked up some more prep items at a grocery store 75% off closing sale: many, many candles, can of camp fuel, containers of dry soup mix, bottles of olive oil, pectin, and mason jar lids (I have a "thing" for jar lids).

I read Lucifer's Hammer back in university before I ever heard of prepping and thought 'survivalists' were modern-day revolutionaries (not in a good way either...). What a great story and resource in hindsight!

This weekend we began putting together the stands for our rain barrels; just in time for some more cold, snowy weather 🙁

12 boxes of dried stuffing, was on sale last week at Walmart and again this week at the Thorold Foodland. My rabbits had some more babies, and I sold 1 adult to add some cash to my stash. Also ordered some books on canning off Amazon, and a cheap bow and some arrows off Ebay to start practicing some archery.

Dangpool, How do you plan to keep the water stores from Freezing in the Winter? Been playing with the idea myself.

Finished off the blackout kits for my parents and a family friend, also the basic car kit for the friend, added a weeks worth of food to my stock - I love 1/2 price sales at the grocery stores - esp on tinned foods :), I turned 2 too small paracord bracelets into a me sized bracelet and a double strand lanyard for a mini pouch kit, bought a small portable mini camera, batteries,

This week I spent time and money gearing up a 36" bow saw for my children's woodsman competition.

It took a great deal of trial and error to get a working saw. I could have borrowed a saw from a leader in a neighbouring club like everyone else but I figured: 1) if we have our own, the kids can practice at home and 2) if the SHTF we will have a quiet way to cut firewood.

I soon learned that if the SHTF and chainsaw oil and gas are not available folks are in for a seriously hard time cutting wood.

Those red Home Hardware bow saws with their toy blades are as good as nothing for cutting pulp wood (let alone firewood). In the end I found an old time bow saw on Kijiji and two "Made in Sweden" blades at the Co-op. I also purchased a three corner file to sharpen the blades.

Total cost for the saw that works - $25.00. I'm not including the $30.00 I spent at H.H. for their saw which didn't cut and they wouldn't take back even though I put a brand new blade in it 😈 . I'll buy the better blade and keep it for another day.

It took four days to get geared up and a total of seven store visits, one trip to a neighbouring town for the older saw, and two long distance phone calls. All this for one saw worthy of the name in a grid up situation. The time to prepare is now.
