I read Lucifer's Hammer back in university before I ever heard of prepping and thought 'survivalists' were modern-day revolutionaries (not in a good way either...). What a great story and resource in hindsight!

This weekend we began putting together the stands for our rain barrels; just in time for some more cold, snowy weather

Dangpool, How do you plan to keep the water stores from Freezing in the Winter? Been playing with the idea myself.

We have a 250 gallon "incaseof" tank in the basement for food preps but the rain barrels are for the gardens as our water is quite alkali. I have heard of people putting cattle-trough heaters into their tanks but I guess it depends on how much water you plan on storing outdoors... Just an example I googled.

A UCO collapsible lantern with an extra 3pack of 9 hour candles for the VEDC.
A hand crank meat grinder.
Found and downloaded a design I am going to go with for my wood gasifier/boiler, as well as started collecting materials for it.

Changed spark plug, air filter and fuel filter in my husqy 455 rancher. Now that my saw runs like a dream, time to start cutting wood for winter 2014. Picked up a small pin punch set. Ordered a propane burner so I can hot smoke in my hand built smoker. Also ordered a kit to allow my generator to burn both gas and propane.

built stands for the new rain barrels over the last few weeks and then deployed them this weekend as it snowed again 👿

They are in place now at least ready for the one rainstorm we get in southern AB; June 1 to June 30th...

Purchased an antique washboard. Now I just gotta find one of those galvanized washtubs to complete the set. Then i'll have a powerless option for laundry.

Glockman,
Last year I purchased a double laundry tub with a molded in washboard. It is a heavy molded plastic and I believe it is a Swanstone? that I ordered in from Ontario. Seems to me I paid the best part of $200.00. Of course this won't help you if you want the galvanized look.

I wanted a usable utility sink for now and a way to wash and rinse laundry when the SHTF.

Thanks for the info Lee Enfield. I will definitely look those up. It sounds like it would be ideal for the cottage for outdoor use.

Paracord wrapped my S&W neck knife's handle, bought a signal mirror/whistle/firesteel/compass combo, bought a mini pen for my EDC keychain, bought a 1L Sawyer water Filter bottle, added another 20 meals worth of canned soups, few more storage tubs to better organize my preps, bought a bunch of clothes (clothing is hard to find and pricey for the very big guy) 2pr fleecy track suit pants, 2pr shorts, a fleecy pullover, 4 pr underwear, 2pr knit gloves, 2 knit beanies (skullcaps) and 2 knit scarves - it doesn't get drastically cold here in SE Queensland but I can get cold enugh, replaced some spring water bottles I had used

Have any of you heard of the Wonder Wash? Here is their website: http://www.laundry-alternative.com/products/Wonderwash.html . I have read reviews, etc. and it seems like a great product and easy to use. I plan on adding one to my stores soon.

Received a glass washboard from a friend that past away, my wife likes it as art 😕 not for its potential function.

This week I began collecting extra first aid supplies, such as gauze, N95 masks, bandaging, and bandaids. I also added to our stores of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste and got some extra water and canned tomatoes. Also, I won a fishing kit in the silent auction at my kids' school's Spring Fling last night, so I now have a fishing rod and some basic tackle 🙂

That is pretty slick and the price is good. I would be curious as to the long term durability. Thanks for posting.

"(clothing is hard to find and pricey for the very big guy)"

Razerp,

I know where you're coming from. I recently stocked up on my triple-X bib overalls and bought five pair of size 13 work boots. I'd hate to go through the apocalypse barefoot.
