I'm getting pretty disillusioned with modern media. Seems like virtually no one is trustworthy. Case and point is a newspaper article I read this morning about RCMP recovering $18000 in drugs from some guy's property. But was that the focus? Nope. The focus of the article was on 2 "Soviet Assault Weapons" found with the drugs. Actually they were SKS rifles, but the witless reporter goes on in detail to explain how evil they were, capable of firing "up to 10 shots in rapid succession", and not-too-subtly implying that they were like AK-47s ❓ Shit makes my brain bleed.
Now that was an example of mainstream media. On the alternative side of the coin, we've got sites like shtfplan.com where the page is framed with ludicrously stupid ads about "free energy" and conspiracy books about the Illuminati or some such. The articles themselves are sometimes quite convincing. In particular some of the ones focusing on the US economic decline and solar flares are good reading. Then there's the other ones rife with theories about Obama's secret plan to enslave humanity 😕 And hundreds of comments to each and every article from people willing to believe ANYTHING.
For the record I do believe that a SHTF event will come sooner or later. It's just logical. But that aside, I'm having increasing trouble believing in anything that's not right in front of me.
Our small town's newspaper prints a weekly summary of all the RCMP calls in town and in the county. A few weeks ago, they printed that the RCMP confiscated "a restricted rifle named SKS because the owner didn't have a licence for restricted firearms" This came up during a routine traffic stop. Obviously, the guy is innocent and the cop that pulled the SKS should be ridiculed, but what a pain nonetheless.
I gave up believing the media years ago when I was the victim of an attempted sexual assault...after court appearances etc the local paper did an article on the fellows conviction and sighted the circumstances that SERIOUSLY didn't resemble what really happened AT ALL, if our names weren't in their you wouldn't have known it was the same case. The people I worked with were the first to see the article and asked me questions about why I would be in such and such a place at that time of night, which I WASN'T 🙄
I have said heaps of times before to people "If aliens landed on earth, I would never believe it was real from news reports because if they can computer generate scenes from movies then they can sure as hell computer generate an alien landing 😉
I don't have a TV, I only collect newspapers to light the fire in winter or to use in the garden and I only very rarely read the news on the computer and I think that makes life a lot more simple 🙂
Hm. Yeah, weapons and drugs are huge. If it was just drugs, and no knives, firearms, or whatever else, there would be no need for police, as the 'criminal' was not prepared to kill anyone to protect it. So the police have to prove that they're necessary for publishing the fact that these "could've" been dangerous men.
You realize how stupid it looks when you send a non-violent person to jail? It's a waste of the system, doesn't matter if they have $20000 of drugs, they were just trying to make money, not hurt anyone.

I'm sorry about what happened to you and the resulting fallout. I guess it just goes to show that truth isn't the driving force behind news reporting anymore. The goal is to make a profit by the cheapest means possible.

That is so Cares, I too do not read the paper or watch tv either but the internet is a big influence and I know for a fact so much on there is false and fabricated . I have seen many levels of media and even the law to the highest level botch truth and justice continuously. It can still be maligned to the point that only fragments of truth ever come to light from either media or law enforcement or the justice system . Of all people , from seeing that first hand I should have ingrained to be careful to ascertain and believe half of what I see and less of what I hear and read And is that likely to apply to the motives I see for prepping as well ? Are they over sensationalized ?
Captain,
I think it important to recognize that everything that you witness on television to be "entertainment". Similarly, the interweb is guilty of the same charge. That's not to say that "truth" is not to be found in media. Does a taste of truth not make a deception that much more believable? The real motivation for truth in media is rating and sales. If it catches your attention then by Jove, we need more of that truth! And less of the truth that doesn't sell.
So where? You ask, is one expected to gather one' s truth? I am afraid that I don't have a satisfying answer. If we were to take an honest look at our own lives, we might find that the quantity of the stuff needed to function to be quite small. Perception IS reality Grasshopper!
