Hello everyone, I just found this site and I hope that it helps me with what I am looking for. I have been prepping now for about over a year...doing lots of canning, dehydrating, food storage and such. Am now getting into (as well as continuing food storage...) into medical supplieas and energy supplies. The thing is, my family, no matter how hard I try to tell them - are not responding. They are not prepping and it breaks my heart. Neither does my partner, who thinks I am just crazy that nothing is going to happen. Thing is...I like to be prepared. So I am hoping to meet up with some people, exchange ideas and talk about "strentgh in numbers" kind of thing. Maybe I am taking this streess on myself and I do not have too. I have no underground or bug out place to go and was wondering what others were thinking of doing that are in the same situation as me. I have been in the Quebec Ice Storm and the grocery stores were empty after two-three days...which is why I am surprised my family does not see the importance of it...it happened once. Anyway...I am trying to find a solution to save my family and others who are in the same boat... I read that some communities are getting together in groups they trust and figuring things out that way. Any ideas? Prepping has become such a part of my lifestyle that I feel a bit left out when surrounded by people who think I am just obsessed and nuts! 😀

Hey there Crazy,
welcome to the forum.
I completely understand the ice storm thing...I was there too!
Are you still in Quebec? If so where?
I moved out of Montreal to the Laurentians about a year ago and have begun growing my own food.
I have been trying to get a Quebec get together going in Montreal for quite a while, but interest comes and goes.
Let us know what region of the country you are in and we will try to find you a meetup close by.

Well I am out west now, in Calgary, ALberta. However all my family is back home and I plan to ship all my food storage out there as well as head back atleast at the end of November...just incase the 2012 alighnment causes grid problems. Thanks for the reply btw Denob. Well looks like we want to find the same thing...a group! 😀

try looking through the AB subforum here... http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewforum.php?f=13
There are meetups in Alberta, but not sure about Calgary, although I know we have quite a few members there.
Good luck

Greetings Crazybeautiful and welcome to this forum. Some people do have a hard time with the concept of prepping. My usual response is three questions. Do you have a car? Do you have a home? Do you have insurance? Prepping is just a different kind of insurance. Explained in this way people may still not think it is necessary but at least they get an inkling as to the concept.

Well thanks Denob, will check around but like I said...I plan to head home in case of an event...even if I have to steal a horse to get there! 😀 And yes Gravlore, it does feel lonely when the family is not involved. But thanks ICRCC, because I am going to try a new approach on them, thanks to your outlook. Lets see how this goes! 😀

Welcome Crazybeautiful! Spend some time here and you will not feel quite so alone - or crazy. My DH wasn't always on board like he is now. He thought I was crazy too but I started over 10 years ago and many of the things I talked about then have come to pass - now I suddenly look like the smart one 🙂 Patience and persistence - my suggestion is to not alienate him or your family - just go quietly about your way and talk about every day events instead of some of the larger less likely events - those tend to make people twirl their eyes 🙂

Welcome!
People thought/think we are all nuts at some point. My kids have come on board as our own SHTF regularly. I compare us all to tennis balls, we float in water, are hard to break and keep on bouncing. lol
It is easy to jump in here and the people are incredible.
Keep doing what you're doing, they will be grateful one day!
