So gathering gold and silver in measurable increments (coins and bars) seems like a good idea to weather against state currency...especially as it is no longer backed by gold....another tool in the prepper tool kit.
But what about getting other metals? Things like bars or coins of pure coopper, nickel, titanium, etc. Is there any use for this or should I just stick with the gold and silver? Would they have any defined value like gold and silver? Is it worth purchasing or just sticking to the basics?
Gold and silver have always had value through the ages....no idea about other metals...

The other Metal I hold is...sheet metal. Good for patching holes and keeping water out. I collect whatever scraps I can recycle. Most of it gets used soon after. Nails fits into the same category. Garage sales are a good source.
I know. I know. That's a typical C5 Post. Hard to say whether the others in bars or coin would hold any value other than to be sold as scrap metal at a fraction of your purchase price. According to copper thieves and the number of recyclers I see in trucks at spring and fall clean up events....copper has value. You may wish to hold Recycled copper but only if you can gather it yourself.
Most preppers don't recommend platinum though because its more difficult to find traders for. Gold and silver are more recognisable. Even so G @ S are easily purchased but harder to sell back once the price has increased. The coin traders only want it back when its cheap and easy to resell at a profit. This issue is missed by the gold bugs. It may hold value but only a portion of that value may be returned to you unless it goes to someone that wants to hold it. Still a perfectly acceptable medium of barter when people cease to trust paper

Pffft, cerunnos5, in your perspective I would be considered well prepped for semi "precious metals" with my extensive collection of fasteners to rival any mans . Now I am working on canning jar seals.

Good stuff. There is a reason why old farmers usually have a barn full of bolts, old wire, bent nails and assorted pieces of metal. I cant tell you how many times this year I didn't have the right sized bolt for something I was fixing. Mrs C5 got used to hearing me swear loudly ( I put that mildly. Consider the echo through the hills)) and spend an hour tarring through the shelves of the house and barn, before hearing , "Im missing a bolt. Im going to hop on the motor cycle. Ill be back...in 4 hours".LOL. Gets alittle pricy in gas. Clearly this will be a problem post collapse.
Ive been having a big problem with my hoard of "semi precious" nails and screws. I keep using them ALL
