With this big storm predicted to possibly come at me, I was thinking about what to do to prepare for it.
For preppers, I think this should be go time as it's a big predicted event and if nothing comes of it, at least it's a great exercise in doing what it is that we do.
Here's what I have so far:
-Tidy the yard so stuff doesn't blow around
-Clean the bathtub in case I need to fill it
-Check food preps, make sure there's stuff to eat in case of a power outage
-Clean the house (I feel better if I don't have to worry about doing it later)
-Charge up all charge-ables, prepare flashlights
-Make sure stored water is fresh and in good condition
-Top up gas in vehicles, make sure emergency kits are ready to use and in the trunks
-Clean eavestrophs to prevent water issues
-Cook up some food to have ready to eat
Am I missing anything?
Thanks for your thoughts and ideas!!
If your home library contains more volumes about survival-related topics than your local public library, you might be a prepper.
I would do a walk around all the buildings looking for loose or damaged roofing, siding, etc. Also check for dead branches that can easily break off and fly around in high wind. For sure, double check anything related to power outages such as flashlights, lanterns, cook stove, and alternate heating. Check your supply of repair materials such as plywood or at least tarps to cover any broken windows.
Oh ya, and bring the dogs inside!
It looks like eastern Canada COULD be hit with something nasty.
Everyone in the path should be checking preps and battening down the hatches.
Good luck everyone!
I've got a buddy in Houston who described Katrina when she blew though a few years ago. To paraphrase, the difference between those who were prepared and those who were not - those who set up a BBQ and pulled out a an "eske" of beer vs. those who felt the hammer come down.
My advise. Make sure you have some cold beer in the fridge and something on hand to BBQ. That, my friends, is the beauty of being prepared. 😉
Antsy
Needs must when the devil drives.
Faraday, I love your statement " -Clean the house (I feel better if I don't have to worry about doing it later)". Sounds like me.
I would make sure the chainsaw was full of gas and chain oil because I know would be about to use it. I would also listen the NOAA weather channel for my area to make sure I had the most up to date forecast and information to seek shelter if it became necessary.
A fully stocked beer fridge with backup power. Now that is prepping! 🙂
Great suggestions, thank you all!! I do need to check my trees and dig out those tarps.
IRCC- "seek shelter if it became necessary" LOL !! You'll find me well sheltered from Sunday night on through to Thursday at least. Seriously though, great thinking and I will have my weather radio on.

good call on charging the rechargables. I had forgotten that this morning, now I'm almost done that task.
I was going to start getting as much up off the floor in the basement as possible just in case the sump gets overwhelmed. I guess the previous tenants in my house had some problems with a some water during heavy rains, but my landlord thinks he fixed the issue. we haven't had any issues in the past 10 months, so hopefully it will just be some unnecessary lifting.
Great thinking on the flooding issues, I have had those in the past and it is an issue in my house. Thanks for the tip, looks like I'll be doing some heavy lifting also.

Check outside and clear the storm drains on your streets. Ours are currently covered in wet piles of leaves.
Fill vehicles) with gas.
Good one! The city is currently doing just that ahead of the big rains that are coming. It's going to be a busy morning. Thanks!!

Picked up a few backpack meals for variety if the power is out and I have to fall back emergency food for a bit.
I'm going to top up the propane tank for the BBQ on Monday and get all the chores out of the way I can (especially dishes and laundry). I'm probably going to pick up some paper plates too.
My thoughts...
This will be a great test for my roof repairs, firewood shelter, shed roofs etc.
It may be a great test for power failure preps etc.
We are forecast to get moderate rainfall and about 30 KPH winds with gusts a bit higher.
The storm is now expected to take a turn northward once it gets over land, so we'll keep an eye out and see what happens.

I have made it this far in life doing it My Way:cool:..... Wonder where I would be if I had CONFORMED
Well, we did the basic's that you folks are talking about, including Clean the house, make sure that the laundry is caught up, pulled out and got the gear ready in case we need to be out in the rain alot!, did the extra yard pick up, did some extra tree trimming, pulled out the winter shutters for the barns etc, nailed down to tighten up any loose sheet metal on the barn/outbuildings, moved a few things around to help catch some of the rain that is expected to come down, dug and cleaned/dried the last of this year potato's from the garden and bunked down the things that are still out there.. weighted down the cold frame lids, hauled in extra wood for just in case, and pulled in and put out extra feeds etc so that everything is just where it needs to be for all the critter needs so that we don't have to haul anything anywhere for a number of days etc.

I just noticed that my girlfriend brought home a bunch of candles today... all scented.
That still counts as a prep right? 🙂
