anyways an activity that we all as a family participate in and enjoy. Drives to the Okanagon to buy fruits and veggies combined with boating are really wonderful ways that are part of our prepping and enjoying time as a family.

So, in summary we blend a lot of our prepping into our normal daily activities, to be honest if we couldn't enjoy or make play and have fun with our prepping, I'm not sure we would be as far along in our prepping as we are. The favorite part of prepping to be honest is pretty much all of it.

You said that very well paradigm2012 and I agree fully. We live the same sort of life - sadly minus the scuba diving 🙂 Gravlore - you're kids may still be too young to do some of these activities which means you are on your own - it's much more fun when the kids get older and you can teach them and give them responsibility for things. It also takes the weight off of your shoulders when you see them developing skills for life so their safelty is not all up to you.

I think my favorite part of prepping is getting back to some of the more basic/hands-on techniques I remember my family using when I was small (ie, on the family farm, DIY and frugal-ness). Living in the city I see prepping as my escape from the everyday grind, the fact that it is prepping makes it that much more useful.

Those rainy days you were saving for...may not be quelled by cash.

The never-ending ToDo list 🙂
Each time we complete something (or get closer to completing), we see a whole new horizon unfolding in front of us.
The more we do, the more we see ahead! 🙂

I think I would fall in with about every post here on what I like about prepping, except the one that said " what is so fun about prepping for a disaster", all I got to say to that is too bad to feel that way. Prepping is something that should be the norm, not the abnormal. It gives great peace of mind, as so many others here have said. I think my most favorite thing about it is the other preppers I have met on my path. From newbies to the well seasoned. I love to see how they have converted, modified, altered, made from scratch, etc. all the things that will make life easier to deal with after the grid goes down. I love the innovation that so many preppers have. I like the mindset of most of them and the friendships I have made. It's all fun, and one hell of a learning expierience. FG 419

I enjoy the peace of mind feralgun, but why is it that one requires peace on mind in the first place. Disaster....right? Would it not be nice knowing that there will never be a disaster of any kind, be it weather, government, financial, personal finance, health etc? If it were just a matter of waking up and doing the things I wanted to in life I would not have a Faraday cage or silver (since it would not be needed for anything other than medicinal). Ya know, living life like a kid does in ways.

Love food storage. Just the idea of preserving food like my grandmother did soothes my soul. I once went 5 days with out food. Than will never happen again. I use my LDS cannery, Emergency Essentials, my canning abilities and now I am learning dehydrating. But, on the other hand, I must say I love my guns and being prepared for just about whatever may come my way. My family comes first and I will protect them to the end and provide what they need in the meantime. 😀

Gravlore, it is not that one requires peace of mind, but it sure is nice knowing that I am prepared in the best ways I can for the future. It would be nice to know that there would never be a disaster of any kind, but that is pure fantasy. As long as humans have evolved on this planet there have been and always will be a disaster of some kind to challange us, whether it be man made or natural. fg 419

What I enjoy and have for years, is the security I get from knowing I have enough food/water for the critters as well as myself, if Ma Nature decided to pitch a hissy fit.
She does that ever so often in winter, so that no one moves in or out for a while.
I get to thumb my nose at her. 😈

I agree with others on the gardening...that is one of my favorite pass times and joy.
Next comes dehydrating, then looking at all the jars filled to the brim.

Another thing is a woodshed full of dry wood and knowing I can feed Old Dragon Breath (wood stove) and still be toasty warm and cook on it, regardless of what Ma Nature decides to throw at me.
Yes, I do enjoy chopping and stacking wood, as odd as it may seem.

I also enjoy the nights sitting by said fire and knitting extra mitts/hats/socks or whatever, to put back for when they are needed.

Come spring hatching out chicks, knowing they will give me eggs down the line that I can make more egg noodles to freeze or dehydrate and fill more jars up. Those taste so good in a big pot of soup cooked on a wood stove in the middle of winter.

Now is that prepping or just enjoying life?
Or should I say enjoying life being prepared?

A sense of humor is absolutely essential to survival.

A really good question. And I find it surprisingly difficult to answer!

I like cooking tasty meals with food I grew or myself. I like the sweaty-my-feet-hurt-and-my-back-is-killing-me-but-lookit!! feeling I get from looking at the shelves of colourful jars after a marathon canning session. I like being able to make supper for pennies and have no leftovers (even though I planned for them!) because my partner just couldn't resist that third plate. I like practicing crafts, 'useful' ones from learning to make cheese, soap, beer and bread from absolute scratch or sewing my own mukluks to frivolous fun like making my own electronic gadgets and minirobots. I like to read theory books concerning skill sets I don't have, which I freely admit generally turns into my next frivolous hobby.

Finally I see more and more people change prepping into lifestyle. When you do that you really start enjoying prepping. We go to the store once a week ( SUNDAY AFTER CHURCH) just to see some specials on papers, tissues atc. When I look at the prices of food lately I just do not know if I should cry or laugh.I see people paying over $100 for 2 bags of groceries.Than I come home and enjoy homemade chicken soup (from my chickens) nice piece of home made smoked ham and my own grown potatoes. Then have nice home made wine and relax in warm wood heated hose. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LIFE THAT IS.
KEEP PREPPING !!!!!

Henry wrote "Finally I see more and more people change prepping into lifestyle". I think that alone says a lot. Prepping is a lifestyle and it is lifestyle that is a choice. Those that choose to go down this path rarely regret it and hardly ever look back. How many other alternative life styles can boast that?
