Welcome to Canada, one country, 13 little kingdoms. Disappointing in this day and age that we sometimes have more trade freedom with other countries then with some provinces.

Its our constitutional arrangement. We do literally have 11 Crowns in Canada. The Fed's and provinces have distinct constitutional authority in clearly spelled out sections for each of them. Hence why we have a Governor General and Lt. Governors General to oversee and legalize legislation respectively. (Territories are under the constitutional authority of the Fed's.) And no constitutional rights or authority by municipalities...they are merely "administrated" locally at the pleasure of Her Majesty in Right of that particular province with some sort of "municipalities act" of legislation to govern how they work.

Disappointing sometimes. Not always...but sometimes. Entertaining to see interprovincial or provincial/federal spats though. 😉

As for Cannabis....just me chiming in:

The scientific research to date shows strong evidence it helps with things like chronic pain, nausea and vomiting from things like Chemo, and also with managing symptoms of MS. There is little to some evidence it may help with other conditions...but not enough or no reliabale studies to substantiate this. A lot of poor experiments done by groups with a direct interest in Cannabis claiming it can cure this or that...and/or lots of anecdotal stories. Thats it. So tread carefully.

Just my two cents: one of the biggest concerns with continued smoking marijuana is the inhalation of smoke with partially burned by products from the cannabis with or without a filter. Exposure increases the potential for lung cancer and other respiratory conditions. Similar to cigarettes the partially burned by products increase risk for many lung conditions. Just keep it in mind with all the buzz around the awesomeness of cannabis. Smoke is for the most part carcinogenic.

I'm neither pro nor anti Cannabis for the record. To each his own. I hate the smell though. 🙂

Just a light read to help from the evidence based side of things;

And the most funny story I've heard all week (if the gummy bears dont get ya...the cookies will.):

Excellent comments on Cannabis Crown, but I don't share your sense of humor when it comes to drugs and 12 year olds...

Good read on the evidence side Crown. Hopefully legalization opens up more studies of the various compounds that make up cannabis. Not to get to sidetracked on the whole kingdoms thing, but those spat/rules etc cost the economy about 130 billion a year. Love to see some more streamlining, especially with beer 😀

While I do believe that there are some "wild" things said right now on the net on everything this plant can or can not do.. there is some pretty solid medical uses.. I like others above had a dear friend of my mothers that in later stages of cancer treatments was given medical grade oils to help with his pain.. and after treatments to help him be able to eat.

ah, thats what he said "oil" same stuff I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMIc7feG5GA

A few things to consider ..

1- Like any plant, learning to grow, nurture and cultivate it will take practice.

2 - Security becomes an issue when growing anything of value. Growing things that get people to a state of euphoria will attract undesireables.

3 - When flowering it stinks. Really, really stinks. See point 2.

4 - Medicinal uses are wide, however, knowledge of the numerous strains and applications of this as a medicine need to be learned. Like any medicine the incorrect medicine can amplify symptoms (e.g. you wouldn't give caffeine to a person who has troubles sleeping when lavender is more effective - you won't want to treat illnesses with any marijuana you happen to stumble across - there are hundreds of strains of the stuff)

One step closer..

https://www.canada.ca/en/services/health/campaigns/legalizing-strictly-regulating-cannabis-facts.html

A good read on the basic's of the rules so far.. it will be interesting to see what each province and the north does in regards to setting their own rules as allowed.. they can raise the age of use, they can choose if you can grow at home and if so.. how many plants, max four min 0.. but its worth a note that the seeds or seedlings are listed as approved seeds.

I will look forward to reading more about that at a future point but it appears to give the "idea" in this reading that that would mean no seed saving on your own plants. Will that mean that you will be able to pick and choose what you want to grow by having a seed selection for sale.. hmm

I can't see the medical growers wanting anything they are working on being available as seed for home growers? Will there be a point that there is a government center that creates new strains for sale to the public? huh

Like I said.. one more step closer to this be coming real..

Pretty sure feds kiboshed senate amendment giving provinces a say on homegrown. Probably end up in court. Quebec and Manitoba did not want to allow growing at home. Why grow when you can buy from us.

At this time so far Nunavut also is going to go with mail order only. No growing and at this time, no selling in any of the towns or Iqaluit.

Let's keep this to the original topic of keeping cannabis for medical purposs.
Why certain governments may want to prevent home growing has no bearing on that discussion.
Thanks.

My wife tried cultivating for her own use but gave it up. Don't get me wrong, she grew some nice looking plants. The problem is, she also loves her ride on mower. Every year, right about the time the plants reached 18 to 20 inches, she'd get carried away on the mower and I'd hear a shriek when she would accidentally run over her plants. She finally gave up.

Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.
