During minor surgery I talked to doctor and nurse about various med shortages. Nurse was mixing up a older version of local anesthetic as usual one was unavailable. Hurricane in Puerto Rico had shut down source. Further conversations with family member who works in pharma shed light on how much drug/medical products production has moved off shore. This article serendipitously popped up on my news feed.

A great deal is off shore and there is a serious issue with counterfeit meds.attened a meeting in DC where topic was well covered. The pills are better looking then real stuff. Scare the hell out of you if you viewed where and how the stuff is made. Careful where you buy stuff
"The last US factory making penicillin closed in 2004, he found. Only 10 percent of the generic drugs used in this country are made here. Four-fifths of the active ingredients in American pharmaceuticals come from somewhere else, mostly India and China. "
That was a chilling statement... I had no idea it was like this. I ponder what Canada's situation is like. Probably similar?

Scary concepts indeed. Prevention and then using natural type remedies is something very important to learn.
The situation is exactly the same in Canada. My hospital has been running out of supplies for months now, since most of it comes from Puerto Rico. Even something as basic as a bag of normal saline. It all comes from overseas. It's scary.
wow, that is scary, hopefully at some point in the near future we will see some of this coming back in house and by that I mean being done again in Canada. That to me would be the ideal answer.
