Well, that’s about to be fun...

Was at the local Peavey Mart - wearing gloves and social distancing- to pick up some extra for the critters. Asked the cashier how things were and if everyone behaved.

Her answer “some folks are going nuts. Like this guy that bought for $320 of ammo. Turns out Cabelas is running low and this guy wanted to stock up; he got a bit pissy when I commented on his purchase.”

Knowing how much ammo is normally at the North Edmonton store, it’s scary the thought of how much ammo has been stock piled in a short time period!! There’s going to be a lot of well armed rednecks around!

Blessed are the rednecks, (and those who prepare) for they shall inherit the earth 😆 😆 🙄 depending on what the caliber was, that’s not all that much ammo

Peavey Mary isn’t the type of place that sells 0.50 so assuming hunting rounds, at say $40/box of 20 that’s still 160 rounds, that’s quite a bit of deer.

Now if it’s 12Ga shells or .22 that is a lot of ammo.

160 rounds for many of us would be indeed 160 deer, lets say we screw up a bit on those long windy shots and its 140 deer.
now for average person out there who likely hasn't practiced in five or more years, stressed with pressure by wife and family at pretending to be Daniel Boone, they will need a good 40 just to zero in scope and hit a pie plate at 100 yards from a bench rest, it may mean a lot less. its going to be the far west out in the bush this fall. I also expect to hear the odd shot at night as people turn to poaching.

lord there soon will be city folks wandering and blasting at anything that moves. turkey season is a little over a month away out here in eastern Ontario. guessing i may have a few strangers wandering on property claiming they didn't know it was private property. Just to annoy the lying sacks of camel dung, I ask them, did you see a provincial park sign? they get all snarly faced. twits

Things are looking better at the grocery stores. I was in a couple in a city south of Edmonton and most things were back in stock, including toilet paper, limits were placed on many items so people could only buy a few items of somethings. This looks to have improved availability. Still no powdered milk to be found anywhere but most other items were back in stock. It didn't look like prices were higher, in fact many items were on sale pricing. Those n95 masks were in stock at Peavy Mart and Home Hardware, with limits on how many you could buy.

Chanced a trip to Costco today. Kudos to the staff!! Extremely efficient process for carts cleaning, capacity management inside the store and actively promoting distancing. Tills' conveyor belts are cleaned between each patrons and so is the payment key pad. Half of the patrons were wearing gloves and a handful wore masks.

By and large, the store was well stocked, including one brand of TP (not Kirkland). Meat, veggies (wrapped!) etc there was good selection. No pasta available other than KD, but lots of rice options, lentils, quinoa, etc. While they had sugar, there was no flour available, other than almond flower which is quite pricey.

Only oddity was that since they don't move stocks as much, some goods' "best before date" was surprisingly closer than one would expect, especially on dairies.

All in all, it was orderly and relatively well stocked. It was surprising to see their seasonal stuff out like life was normal.

here is something i predicted and that is, nations keeping food for their citizens. So lets hope we get all our canned and frozen veggies, chicken, beef, pork from within Canada? guessing oranges, coffee, lemons, pineapples come from elsewhere/ Sarc!

but seriously, we could easily be faced with this type of shortage. as we who prepare know all to well, survival mode is indeed something needing to be practiced.

We did a "out" and if you are going for X and passing the store.. there are a few things that I would ideally like to replace as it gets used.. plus I want folks to see us "needing to go" like everyone else LOL

The store was 80 plus percent stocked, plex glass installed, tape on floor, the two end stalls open, middle closes (only 3 tills in our store) hand cleaner at the door to come in.. I brought my own wipes, they thanked me for fully cleaning my card, for using the wipes to clean the screen and the touch pad, and for wiping the counter before I set things down (and we just chatted for the 20 second that needed to pass) they had a bagger on each till and they all have gloves and cleaner and they have to wipe everything down x times per min or in their store so many customers.. She said, for those like me, she would clean after me as she could see I was totally being careful.. but if they get someone who appear to not.. they do the spray and clean right after them..

Everyone I meet was smiling, polite, even chatty.. happy to speak to someone else 6 feet away.. when I cleaned my door handles, the lady standing by was chatting that it was great to see such things and then we had a talk about the negative of people just taking their gloves off in the parking lots and not putting them in the garbage cans provided..

They had a limit on how many in each store and requested one person per isle and if you picked it up, you put it in your cart, no touch, look and put back..

They had everything I have been hearing folks are out of.. from flours, yeasts, sugar, baking stuff, canned stuff, beans, rice, bread.. some things where in limited amounts and had limits on them.. but overall.. it was good.. Small town perk I guess..

Well here is a shortage you might not have thought of, dental services. Now I am in a rural area so it may be better in the big city. A couple weeks back I had a tooth fracture. Complete fracture just below the gum line. Long story but the whole thing or whats left has to come out, due to the severity of my condition I was told they have moved me up the third week of Sept. Normally they said I wouldnt have been able to get in until mid October. Apparently due to covid serious dental work is backed up. Normally the dentist said he would have done the job the same day I came in but he cant due to the procedures they now have to put in practice. I find it interesting that 6 or so months into this, things are still backed up, I would have thought they would have had a better handle on things by now.

The lesson from this is make sure you have a good supply of pain meds stashed away...few things hurt worse than dental problems untreated!!

The dentists are seeing fewer patients as they spend more time cleaning, donning and doffing PPEs, etc. I had a tooth fracture (not as bad as you) and had to wait a couple of weeks. They said what would have been about 20 mins took them 45.

That said, you may want to call around and maybe head to the city. The drive may be worth it if it shaves off a couple of weeks of wait.

I was ahead of the curve and when this whole thing was just getting started, I called and got us in for clean, check ups and told them to fix ANYTHING that needed fixing NOW.. anything that was, its there but can wait six month or year was no.. block it, and get it fixed..

So we both headed into this on the lock down with freshly cleaned/treated teeth.. but we booked our next.. hubby normally gets more cleanings them me.. and they called and I was like ok. so wow.. three months into the rebooking timing trying to get folks caught back up.. we got him in first and I am back up even more..

Sorry about your tooth and ouch.. that has to be hurting something else.. I am shocked they are not moving you in faster to be honest, that is the one thing that we still had here was a center where they were doing emerg dental and I would think that would count!

I am hoping that they do not rebook our eye checks again.. they have already done them three times over.. and here is hoping they do get them done before the second wave and lock down comes!

Could and likely should have waited for new eye glasses but went ahead. Should it ramp up I figure Least amount of interactions the better.
